Zoom Manly is my baby. For a small poodle, she is not an old dog, 6.5
years, and until this recent development, with diabetes has been a healthy
and happy dog. Let's just say the name Zoom has been a perfect fit! She's
always been active, at times hyperactive, and up for an adventure. She
accompanies me just about anywhere when I go and particularly enjoys
socializing with fellow seniors, neighbors and friends, and visiting
nursing homes as well. She loves the attention and always somehow
gravitated to a senior resident who had been a dog owner, Knowing that
extra hugs and kisses and tail wags would brighten this person's day. When
stabilized I'm now hoping to have her declared as a certified therapy dog
so that she can continue doing this on an official bas is and perhaps
bring ";an extra sense of contentment" to a person dealing with diabetes,
bringing some needed light and hope into their world dealing with this
disease. When I got Zoom, I wasn't sure what to name her. I wanted a few
days to watch and get to know her personality. "Kisses" was one as she
was just so affectionate, and as days went by and I learned- I had to put
her toys on curfew at night- otherwise she'd play all night and never
sleep! As I was sitting in one room reading one day, out of the corner of
my eye, I saw a flash of platinum fur go by:- Zoom at just about 2 pounds,
learned if she got a running start and jumped on her doggy pillow, she
could "surf" through the dining area into the kitchen, ears flailing and
joy overflowing in her heart. & "ZOOMDOG" was born! The name has been a
perfect match for her ever since. I am a senior citizen, disabled with no
family and social security at $717 a month, as my only source of income. I
am truly grateful for whatever I do have, but now the additional expense
of Zoom's care is a cost I don't know how I will manage. It is becoming
more expensive than originally thought, and additional office visits have
been added to the original estimate. Until she is stabilized on her
insulin, I would assume this is the way it will be for now- unpredictable.
This is all new to me, so I am doing whatever the vet has ordered and will
comply with whatever requirements IMOM has as well. If you find it in your
hearts to help Zoom, I know she sends special doggy hugs, kisses, and tail
wags. Whatever you can do to keep my baby "zooming" around, continuing to
bring light, love and laughter into my life as well as others. We bless
and thank you for anything you can do!
Love, Susan and Zoom Manly
Comments:
Applicant has been very responsive and is excited and thankful to be
getting help from IMOM. Susan has been using public computers (library)
or a friend's but has still been prompt in responding to the committee.
Vet has been very helpful, sent estimates and updates and is
agreeable to working with IMOM.
