This is Bubbas. I rescued
her when she was only 4 days old. She still had her umbilical cord attached! I
was spending the day at my father-in-laws one day during the summer about 3
years ago and I received a phone call from a woman I worked with saying she was
at the vets office with her dog and someone had just come in with a box with a
day old kitten in it. The man had thrown a piece of bread in with the kitten as
if she would eat that! They didn't know where her mother was. The vet office was
going to put her to sleep because no one wanted to care for her. I was outraged!
Its a vets office! Caring for animals is their job!! So I said I would take her
immediately. The vet office gave her to the Quincy animal shelter for a day
until I could go pick her up.
I have such an attachment
to Bubbas its hard to explain. The first 8 weeks of her life were very much like
having a baby. Hence her name. It started as Baby and morphed into Bubbas. She
had to be fed by a bottle every 4 hours. And we had to wipe her bum with a wet
paper towel to get her to go the bathroom. I had to set my alarm every night to
get up at 3 to feed her. I cant explain how cute it was to see her get so
excited when she heard my voice because her eyes were not even open yet! My
husband worked at Home Depot and was able to come home on lunch breaks to feed
her.
I could go on forever. This picture is when I gave her a bath in the sink. I
know that mother cats clean their babies so well and I was afraid of her getting
sick or something because she didn't have that. She was so upset at me for
cleaning her!!
I encourage everyone to adopt, it really warms my heart when I look at my Bubbas
now and know I helped her stay in this world!
