Cody was found at the ripe old age of 8 weeks on the streets of Galveston
County, Tx. He had been cornered by a group of boys who were having great sport
throwing rocks at him. An elderly lady spotted the attack and intervened, no
doubt saving the puppy's life. She drove around looking for his home and
reluctantly took him to the pound where she begged for his life. She couldn't
keep him, but the shelter told her the pup would most likely be put down because
"no one wants a big dog". Life-saver #2 was a rescue volunteer who happened to
be there to pick up some other animals. She overheard the conversation and
without hesitation told the shelter she would take the puppy too. Now keep in
mind, this was about 10 days before Christmas. She was full to over-flowing
with rescues but she couldn't leave him there to die.
The next day, the rescue volunteer posted a picture of this puppy to an email
group that I belong to. I saw the picture and my heart about exploded. It was
truly love at first sight. I convinced myself I would only foster the pup, but
my heart knew better. I was sunk, totally, madly in love with this little guy.
After confirming my vet reference and rescue affiliation, the 11 pound puppy was
at my house chewing up Christmas paper, ribbon and anything else he could get in
his mouth and we've never looked back. Cody is a big boy at 110 pounds, but
every time I look at him, I see that 11 pound puppy that arrived on December 18,
2003.
