Riley and his two siblings were found in a roadside trash dumpster when he was
about 3 weeks old. They were starving, dirty, and infested with fleas and
worms, not to mention upper respiratory infection. The wonderful couple who
found them, bottle-fed them and nursed them back to health until they were old
enough and strong enough to turn over to a rescue group.
Riley's brother and sister were adopted together when they were 10 or so weeks
old, but Riley was left behind. I had just agreed to start volunteering with a
cat rescue group and my first day of working there I walked in and saw Riley.
He came out of his cage at a dead run, eager for the 15 minutes of play time he
was getting that morning. I picked him up and he was so soft and so sweet, I
couldn't bear the thought of not having him in my life.
We tease him sometimes about being a "dumpster kitty", but like they say "one
man's trash, is another man's treasure". Riley is definitely a treasure, and
the love of my life.
