This is the story of Toby,
a Cornish Rex. He is a frail little red tabby & white 17 yr old with CRF (
Chronic Renal Failure) . He was dumped at the Arizona Humane Society at 12 years
of age after his owners decided to move into a no pets allowed apartment. He was
a four paw declaw ( in fact whoever did the surgery mangled his poor little
feet) and his teeth were about to rot out of his mouth. Because he was old,
skinny, frail & in need of a major dentistry, the Arizona Humane Society put him
on their unadoptable list & called us to see if we would be willing to take him
in to Rex rescue rather than having them euthanise him. By the time his
veterinary needs were taken care of we were head over heels in love and Toby
became a permanent resident at our home. Toby is unlike any other C-Rex that I
have ever met. He is like having the embodiment of Buddha living with us. Unlike
most of the crazy, wonderful Rexes that I have known, Toby's life force is the
very essence of serenity and all that is good in the Universe. When you pick him
up he hugs you & purrs so deeply as to bring your body in harmony with his own &
and transport your soul to that special place that is the essence of love
itself. He brings that vibe to all of the other cats as well and there has never
been a cat here who refuses to snuggle with him. He goes out of his way to
gently make friends with frightened new arrivals to our "Rex-cue" and to give
them reassurance that everything is going to be alright. He is always available
to share his love and makes an extra effort to come "lay paws" on you if you are
ill or upset. Just like a little curly live-in Shaman. How his former owners
could have tossed him out like a piece of used furniture is beyond
comprehension. He has been nothing but a blessing & a treasure in our lives.
Toby has had CRF for about 3 years or so. He is now in full blown renal failure
and every day we are with him we hope that he will stay here
& bless us just a little while longer.
