I
was idly browsing Petfinder one day two years ago, when a very special, pleading
face stared out at me. He was half a continent away from me, but the website
indicated that there was a sponsorship program for dogs at the shelter. I
called to get more details, because his little face was breaking my heart. The
news was not good as the sponsorship program had been suspended, and this little
boys time was up. Did I want to adopt him? I did, but the obstacles seemed
insurmountable. However, with the help of rescue friends at Today's Treasures
and Southern Cross GSD Rescue, plans were quickly put in place. The little guy,
now known as Micky, was pulled out of the shelter, kenneled and transported to
his new home within a month.
Micky has been with us two years now, and a sweeter more biddable nature you
could not find anywhere. He is great friends with his older fur-brother and
would love to play ball all day. If it were not for the tireless volunteers who
gave their time and energy to get him safe for us, the outcome of his story
could have been tragic. We are grateful every day for the chance that connected
us to this pup over the internet, and for all the real people behind the scenes
who make rescue happen.
