I thought that perhaps you might be interested in learning how our slogan, "Helping people help pets", came to be. This page will explain it.
In 1998 when IMOM was no more than thoughts running through my head, I wondered how I would describe to people what IMOM's purpose would be. I needed a slogan.
In business one of the first things you learn is that you have to find a need and fill that need, if you are to be successful. I had found a need -- financial aid for non-routine veterinary care. My time on the Internet had shown me that often times people had to make the difficult decision of euthanasia simply because they were financially challenged. There was a money barrier between them and getting their pet healthy. There wasn't another organization providing full funding for non-routine veterinary care when all hope was nil. That was the need. To fill that need IMOM would remove the money barrier so people could help their pets with non-routine veterinary care.
It soon became very obvious to me that I was going to need help. I asked some cyber friends if they wanted to help in my venture. I explained to them that they would be helping people who needed financial help for their pet's non-routine veterinary care.
If you are an animal lover there isn't anything to match that feeling you get when you help a pet. So I thought, "why not give everyone that opportunity"? An opportunity to "help people help pets". Not just those who had volunteered to become a founding member of IMOM.
Through IMOM I could do that. IMOM could offer the opportunity of helping pets to anyone with that desire. Whether it be through getting financial aid to help your own pet, working as a volunteer, making donations and simply being a supporter in our mission and helping to promote our cause.
Over the years I have seen new organizations with slogans very similar to IMOM. If the idea came from IMOM, I am humbled.
Hug your pets and keep them safe. They will leave you far too soon.
