We were blessed to find Ducati after months of searching rescue sites and facilities. At the time, my husband and I were in more than a good enough position to care for our sweet little 1 year old dog and actually donated frequently to various pet charities and even carried pet insurance. Today (5 years later) we have been blessed with a child but stricken with grave unemployment. Despite these hardships, we had always managed to care for our pet family (Ducati and his Chihuahua sister lexis.)
Last November Ducati was diagnosed with a "luxated lens" in his left eye. This dislodging of the lens causes tearing in the eye, is extremely painful and in Ducati's case lead to infection. We had to have his eye removed; so we scraped together the money, funded Ducati's procedure and thought it was over. Now, six months later, we find ourselves living with family, still searching for work and battling another eye infection.
Ducati's remaining eye has been diagnosed with the same affliction and just as before has a fast moving and very grave infection. We are now scrambling to find help for our dog as we deal with specialists who won't take monthly payments, won't take third party payments, and basically can't help us.
Just two days ago we found a wonderful vet who (after seeing firsthand the severity of his condition) is more than happy to help us by allowing charitable organizations to help raise funds for Ducati's life saving procedure. We would love nothing more than to keep our happy, healthy (albeit blind) boy with us! We've studied up on caring for a blind dog and he is MORE than worth it!!
My family and I thank you for taking time out of your day to read this letter. Thank you and God bless.
