Hi everyone. first let me start with I respect everything this website represents and I am just now realizing how important things like this are, thank everyone.
     I am a new member to IMOM and unfortunally I didnt stumble across this on good terms.I don't have any kids just my Bella,  a 3 year old dog and she and my 3 month old were struck by a semi, unfortunalty Bentley my 3 month old didnt make it. There is still much much hope for Bella . She broke her pelvis and requires immediate surgery with pins and plates. I had to pick her up today after a over night stay at the animal hospital costing me 400 dollars. I now haveBella at my home, still with broken bones, and its breaking my heart having to wait and see if I can make something happen the surgery cost between 2500 and 2500 dollars and they are sending me I more exact cost once the specialist receives the x rays.. now being in this position once stabilized again I am going to become a firm donor with this program hoping I can help with someone else. Karma Bella should have good karma coming her way and I hope it starts here.

Kurt & Bella ~ If you are thinking about applying for fundraising, start here:  http://www.imom.org/fa/index.htm
Read everything and start gathering up the required paperwork for the application.  
Also see the lists of other sources of funds.  http://www.imom.org/fa/others.htm  Contact them to see if they have additional funds available.  

As I understand it, IMOM can only raise funds for future treatment.  Not existing vet bills.  
So, start the process today if you want to apply.

It look as if Bella is a pit bull or at least a pit bull mix...please research

it helps with financial aid for pits and mixes....

They will pop right up with an Internet Search and they have worked in conjunction with IMOM in the past....

IMOM loves every breed and mix of dog or cat.    Or pig, come to think of it.

Judy was just suggesting that since Bella looks like a pit, there are additional organizations that will also help with some of what you would need to raise.  If it is going to be $2500 for Bella's surgery, it is a good idea to look into as many organizations as you can, in addition to IMOM.  And Pit Bull Rescue Central is one that might help with funding for Bella.

Every little bit helps, but don't feel that because Bella is a pit or mix, she wouldn't be helped by IMOM.  You do need to get started on your application to IMOM, if you haven't already done so.

Okay sorry for the mix up. I've contacted several people and most are low on funds and there is one that can only help with 200 dollars so i think they wont try for me. Ive also been trying to find a local vet in the northeast Ohio area that would be willing to accept payments. the surgery is est, from one doctor so far to be 3600 dollars to do, I would be able to realistically pay this off in about 6 weeks but cant come up with it all upfront, i need to have payments. any help with finding that or a charity with funds would be a great help. i don't know about IMOM yet i just printed the paper work and im taking it to the vet to be filled out in the morning.
                                   Bella is doing better. shes at home now. she needs swelling to go down before the surgery is possible, Doc says two weeks. She lays around all day and waggs her tail and licks like its her job. I carried her down the stairs and outside and she walked around and went potty, one and two, which is great/ Neither of us have gave up hope yet. thanks everyone for all the help I'm very grateful for anything and i hope everything plays out for the good.

Don't think the organization that indicated they'd only be able to help with "like $200" won't help because of Bella's breed.  That is the way many organizations manage to give some help to many.  Every dollar helps.  IMOM also helps by having many donors donate what they can.

You indicate you think you'd be able to pay back the amount to a vet in 6 weeks, if they'd do the surgery.  CARE CREDIT sounds like an option that would work well for you if there is a vet in your area that accepts it, and you qualify.

I'm sorry you lost Bentley.  How did both dogs get in the path of the semi?

Kurt, I also live in Northeast Ohio and have many animal loving friends...let me know where you are and I'll see if I can find someone that might know a vet that works on payments...

There's a guy in Fremont that will take payments but he needs like 1700 down. I could get about 600-800 dollars myself and I'm going to need some help with the rest of the down payment. Bella has a appointment on Monday with him and I think we can just take the other x-rays there . If he charges hundreds more for the appointment on Monday then my down payment fund will get smaller. Bella is doing good thou she will do all her tricks but she wont speak for me, I don't know whats going on with that but I'll figure it out.  Thanks for all the help again.

   I went out to my mothers and she does daycare and the dogs got let out of the front door and by the time I made it to the door there was a semi pulling away. I saw Bentley in the road and knew he didnt make it and bella ran back towards me into the house. I went and grabbed Bentley off of the road and took Bella to the hospital.
   Bella knows better than any of that. I think that Bentley smelled the dead racoon on the raod and took off to investigate. Bella would have had to be following him to try and get Bentley to come back. When I took Bella in I was living in Columbus and she was about 3 months old. We usually went to the dog park about 6 times a week. When I would walk her back in my home town we wouldn't even use a leash she would just walk right next to me. Point is that she knew better and I think it was to get Bentley back. Bella was hit on her tail end barely so she knew it was coming and I think she was trying to get away just a little to late.

I can't imagine a child care location so close to a place where semis are running.  What keeps the children from getting in harm's way?  Poor little Bentley.  

Sounds like you and Bella are making progress.  I hope the vet in Fremont works out and is able to accept and use the X-rays.  A few days time can change the picture, but we'll hope what he/she needs to see will be revealed enough that a new set doesn't have to be done.

Give Bella a hug from me.   Don't make her talk to get her treats.  She's been through a lot already.

Wondering about the BSL in Ohio.  Is it tough to find towns where you can have Bella?

Its harder than you could ever imagine to find a landlord that will let me have a "pit pull" without them thinking they are the dog of satin. Small town stereotyping its a joke.

faxed my IMOM paper work today ..wish us luck... I ended up finding a Vet that would do the surgery for 2400 est. so thats great news also. now we just need to get the funding to do the surgery ASAP. Thanks to everyone for your help.

You  are doing a great job keeping us IMOMers informed.  I'll be lurking to see if Bella's case is accepted and I'll cross-post it in hopes it brings in more donations.

I gave my doctor the paperwork for imom on tuesday of last week havent heard anything back yet. do you think they didnt turn them in or that we werent accepted?

You need to check with your vet to see if they faxed in information to IMOM first and then send an email to IMOM asking if they received the information from your vet and your paperwork.

email is the only way that IMOM communicates with the applicant, not here on the forum....hang in there...it's tough in the beginning but it gets better, believe me...don't wait any more, it's time to double check things, both with the vet and IMOM.....GOOD LUCK...

I have also tried Pit Bull Rescue and I am still waiting on a reply. It is definitely worth a shot! Silas needs surgery on his leg expected to cost about $2,800 for one leg and he needs both worked on. Just keep your head up. I've also tried Help-A-Pet and The Onyx & Breezy Foundation.
