Hi everyone,
I am new to IMOM
I came across this site this morning when I was looking for some finacial help for our precious mojo.
He has been very sick since dec 18th. We were driving home for the holidays from fl.to ca. When he became very ill. Massive bleeding from his bottom. We had to stop in san antonio texas to get him some meds and a sub q to get him to ca. Once we got him to ca. He was admitted for 3 days. IV's xrays meds. We were all so happy to see him come home. Expecially grandma. She just loves him so. He has flown back and fourth with me many times. He has more frequent flyer miles that most people. But if I went home to see gram and did not bring him I would be in trouble.lol
Well it is now Jan.26th and he its still in very poor condition. Took him again to the vet yesterday second time since we have been home and they have sent us to a specialist today.
Poor guy weighed 9.00 lbs when this all started now he is down to 6.00 lbs. We are having to hand feed him and water him.
It is something I'm his colon. We will know more today. Praying it is not cancer !!
We think it is an obstruction I'm the colon.
He is always healthy and has been on the same food for years. But before we left for ca.gave him a good bath so he would be so pretty for gram. Then gave him a supposabily healthy treat. A piece of chicken jerky wrapped around a raw hide bone. It said from newport beach ca. But come to find out it was from china. After internet research. I know this is where the problem started because it was the only thing different we did. Some people say travel sickness but our Mojo is a traveler. He loves it!!
Anyway just wanted to share my story with you all. Please keep him in your thoughts today.
Take care and have a blessed day.
Peggy

Paws crossed for your Mojo (I have a boy named Mojo too).
The articles I've read said that the problem with chicken jerky from China is Fanconi's syndrome - you may want to ask your vet about that, Fanconi's can be diagnosed with a simple urinalysis, looking for glucose in the urine.
If he has a blockage of some sort (the rawhide?) that can happen no matter where the rawhide is made. Blockages can also happen from dogs eating all kinds of other things too.
Hope your baby is okay......please let us know how he is.

Thank You Vicky
Well he is home with us. Not looking to good. His bacterial infection is very bad. He has a thinking of the colon wall which is not allowing him to go poop. He has not had a normal poop for over a month and has lost over 1/3 of his body weight. We are trying another round of different antibotics.
They did an ultra sound yesterday and saw no blockage. But right at the anal opening is so swollen because of infection he can't pass anything. So they wanted to do explority surgery at a cost of 4 grand to start. Besides the 500.00 we spent for the ultra sound. Crazy!! We have already spent 2 grand and we are tapped out. I am hoping that the new meds help and he can actually go on his own.
I asked about fanconi syndrome they said no.
We have care credit but have reached out limit on that.
I wish and pray for a miracle everyday. I need toi get him better asap because I am having my own surgery neck fusion in two weeks and need my little man well to help me recover. He just knows when you are sick or sad and

Paws crossed for your little Mojo!
That's good that there is no blockage, but sorry he is sick with a bacterial infection :( Hopefully the new antibiotics and meds  they gave him do the trick this time, and he will be back to normal soon!
Good luck with your surgery too!

Well here is an update on our little mojo. Took him back to the vet on friday. We wanted the vet to try an enema the vet said no for fear of rupturing him bowel. He said he has a stricture and said we should put him down. We just could not except that yet. Just because when we said lets go bye bye he hopped off that couch and did his normal bye bye dance. Sure did not look like an animal that needed to be put down. So we took matters into our own hands. Stopped at the store and got laxatives and aloe vera juice and an enema. Came home and started all of them. Yes my husband gave the poor little guy an enema. Let me tell you it was a long night. Dog with enema and back yard fine. Dog with enema on the tenth floor of an apt. building not good. Lol but he passed poop all night. The next day he slept pretty much all day cause he was up all night. He actually ate a bit of food on sat. which we were having to hand feed him before. Sunday he seemed too be feeling a little better. Not out of the woods by any means. But at least all of that old poop is out of his body. We keep praying to St. Francis and God to help him get through this. We know that he could have scar
tissue in his bowels. But hope the aloe vera juice helps with that along with all the meds.
We are so happy that this little guy is a fighter!!

I am so happy that things seem to be straightening out for Mojo...but how brave you were...

Let's see if he can stay clear...canned pumpkin (pumpkin only) works for both constipation and for diarrhea (don't know how that works) but perhaps just a little (since he's so small) mixed with some canned food might keep him in good shape...

I would also feed him small quantities at a time...you said he's eating his regular food?  I wonder if perhaps a nice, gentle mix of either boiled hamburger and rice or chicken and right might be soothing for his innards...

Please keep posting with luck, GOOD NEWS only...Judy

Funny that you said canned pumpkin because we got him some new food on sunday. It is called Golden Years Senior Medley plus a digestive supplement called fruitables with sweet potatoes. We are feeding him little amounts around every two hours.
Well we felt we had to try something. Not just put him down. Thanks for the advice. Any advice sure helps..

Hello,

I am also new to IMOM and know how hard it is to see a beloved pet suffer.. I wish you and Mojo the best of luck and like VIckyimom said, paws are crossed, too!  People always say animals are lucky to have us, but I think we are lucky to have them.

I look forward to a positive outcome for Mojo :)
