Tuck is very sick. He has pancreatitis. I knew when the neuro himself called me that something was wrong with labs (especially knowing the neuro called me from Cinncinnati). Tuck's amylase and lipase are very high so they added a SPECcpl for pancreatitis and it was extremely high. When the neuro shows concern u know something is very wrong. Tuck started having lots of seizure activity last night and is continuing today, plus vomiting. He had fluids today and I am to call tmw at 10:15AM with an update.

Please keep Tuck in ur thoughts and prayers. Pancreatitis can be lifethreatening.

Justice had some partials with the storms during the night.

I am really scared guys. We are trying to keep Tuck out of the hospital, but he needs to show improvement.

Thanks so much Susan. hugs.

Thanks angels!

Cindy, my husband and I just sat quietly and directed healing energy in your direction, for both you and Tucker. I know you're scared and you're not feeling well yourself, so this is an extra toll on you. I hope you're able to sleep tonight, to keep up your strength.

From your posts it seems you were at Medvet on Monday? We were there for a 10:30 appt with Dr. Fenner (went well). I so wish we had seen each other.

Please know that we're thinking about you and your much-loved schnauzies.

All best,
Michele

Tuckie is still having a rough go. He has had 3 GM's and numerous CP's since last night. The neuro said that since we know the seizures have increased due to the pancreatitis  we will not make seizure med changes right now. If it continues he will add Gabapentin this weekend to try and break the seizure cycle. For now Tuck is on so many meds for pancreatitis that the neuro doesn't want to add any more meds if we can help it.
Sometimes Tuck seems pretty comfortable and sleeps, and other times he hunches and shivers. He is on pain medication. He is such a trooper getting fluids.
Carol is watching him right now so I can try and get some sleep.

Justice is doing fine and at 1 day. :pp_animal_568:

Judy, Michele, Ralph, Deb, Susan and Paula, thank u so much dear friends for sending thoughts, healing energy, prayers and just for helping to hold us up. Not only is this heartbreaking to watch when ur kid is so sick but everyone here is reminded that this is the progression of what happened to Tuck's sister Abbie before we lost her 2 months ago. At first the doc thought it was a disc problem, then pancreatitis, then over 2 weeks she got worse and suddenly they found fluid in her abdomen and the large tumors were found, and we came home without her. It's like reliving the same sequence of events only this time with Tucker.

Now logically I know that Tuck has great specialists looking after him, and also with the rock eating last month and all the xrays they would have noticed something wrong with his liver or spleen. Plus the neuro watched video of Tuck this week which was classic for some early disc problem. But we are all reeling becuz the sequence is absolutely identical as it was with Abbie so far in that first the vet thought it was a disc, then pancreatitis, then...
With Abbie though the vet never did the test for pancreatitis so it may not have even been that. Tuck's specCPL this week was 940 (normal is below 200; 200-400 is a "grey area" where if there are symptoms u treat for pancreatitis; and over 400 is def pancreatitis). Last September when he had pancreatitis he was in the 600's; this week the 940 truly is as the neuro said yesterday "almost off the charts" becuz the highest they can test is 1,000.

Thanks so much again for holding all of us up. You are all so special to me and the boyz.
hugs to all of u and the kids.

P.S. Michele, we saw Dr Fenner on Tuesday-sure wish we had been there the same day! Glad all went well. hugs

Thanks ever so much angels!!

Tuck is still having GM's and CP's. We increased the frequency of his pain medication today becuz he is still obviously hurting. He may be started on steroids too if the increased frequency of the Tramadol doesn't keep him more comfortable. We had hoped he would have more improvement then he has at this point. He is still getting subQ fluids every day along with nausea med, pain med and an antibiotic. He is such a trooper and doesn't deserve this. I wish I could wave a wand and make him feel like playing and being silly again.

Justice is doing pretty well. He is at 2 days.

Please, please, keep the prayers and healing energy and thoughts coming to Tuck. He really needs them.

Many, many prayers and lots of healing energy headed your way.  I hope Tuckie turns the corner soon.  Instead of painting my kitchen (ugh) I will start running in circles until Tuckie gets better...and we all KNOW he WILL get better.

Sorry I've been MIA lately.  We have been doing alot of projects around the house that is taking up lots of my time.  When Foru passed it really threw me for a loop.  My heart broke for Dawn and it needed some time to heal.  Plus I've had two seperate litters at my neighbors to deal with.  I didn't know anything about birthing puppers before but I am getting a very quick education.  I think I may have them talked into getting their females spayed (crosses fingers).

Take care of yourself and know you have lots of love headed to you and the boys.

Tuckie is still hunching/shivering at times. He is also still having GM's and CP's. The Tramadol is definitely helping but doesn't quite hold him the whole 6 hours, and that's the earliest it can be given (normally it's given every 8 hours). He is coughing more for some reason. Poor little guy can't catch a break.
He still very much needs thoughts and prayers...

Justice is hanging in there. He is at 3 days. :pp_animal_568:

Hi Kat, looks like u have more running in circles today-maybe u could swipe the kitchen wall with a paintbrush as u run by??
Foru going to RB was quite a shock-so incredibly sad. I understand the feeling of needing to regroup and take a break.
I can't believe ur neighbors are up to their old tricks. Thank God for the puppers sake that u are there. I sincerely hope they spay the females.
don't work too hard.
hugs to u and the kids.

Thanks so much Susan and Pat. Tuckie needs all the thoughts and prayers he can get. Hugs to u both and all the kids.

I know when it comes to our loved ones, logic does help much - but your words were still true:

Quote

Now logically I know that Tuck has great specialists looking after him

He has great specialists, a great mom, and a great family (both furry and non-furry); I sure hope he feels better soon.  He is one loved pupper - including by his IMOM family.  You and he are always in my thoughts and prayers.

Kay, u are absolutely right when u say he is one loved pupper. I can't imagine life without him (or Justie). As u know, they are my world and my heart.
We hope u will be visiting in the not too distant future. Judy and I are anxious to see u again.
hugs to u and the kitties.

Just an update on Tuck. I just spoke with Niki and we are increasing his pain medication and adding a steroid to help with inflammation and pain (plus it will help his cough). She also wants him to go to MedVet for an ultrasound-and I agree. I hope they can get him in tmw or Tuesday at the latest.
He didn't even care when he got a dose of Sucralfate (Carafate)-he usually gets more of it on me then in him becuz he hates it. He just accepted it awhile ago. I am anxious for the time that he sprays me as he shakes his head trying to get rid of that medicine.

MedVet called this AM and had an available slot for Tuck's ultrasound so we went right away. Thankfully the only major thing wrong is the pancreatitis. It showed a couple other things (huge gallbladder and tiny bladder stones that should pass themselves).
Tuck goes back to Columbus Wed AM to see Niki and we'll discuss everything then. For now he stays the same course since he is still feeling bad and having pain.

We had storms this AM and more are coming this eve. I am hoping for all our sakes that it's not during the night becuz we have only slept a few hours at a time the past 5 nights...if we were lucky.

Hoping to be able to get Tuck to Columbus tmw.
Thankfully Tuck is finally showing some improvement.
He finally is going into the yard to poop instead of pooping on the deck. Never in 11 years has he had accidents on the deck. We thought Amanda did it Friday and Saturday, until Carol saw Tuck on Sunday. She said it was obviously too painful for Tuck to go down the stairs. (it was also painful for him to be carried down the steps, so we just let him do whatever made him comfortable).
Both boyz were outside awhile today.

Thanks so much deb. hugs!!!

There is thunder in the distance, so will do as much of an update as I can.
.
Tuck had a GM at midnight last night, and then at 3AM storms started and Justice had partial seizures. Storms went until 6AM, so all of us were awake all that time.

Tuck and I left for Columbus at 6:45AM. He is whining when his abdomen is pushed around his pancreas, so he stays on all meds and the rice/kibble for at least a few more days. A quick ultrasound was done again to look at his gallbladder becuz the U/S Monday was fasting- and the gallbladder will seem larger when there has been fasting. So since he had breakfast today and the gallbladder should be contracted it was checked again-it's still huge and has sludge. So in a few days after he is feeling better from the pancreatitis he will start Ursodiol (Actigall) to help the bile release more easily.
I decided to go ahead and keep a dermatology/allergy appt since we were already going to be in Columbus, and Tuck is itchy and also has 4 "masses" he needed checked. I never expected a biopsy to be needed. She didn't even want to put it off becuz one is very suspicious for melanoma. All were taken off just using Lidocaine to numb his skin. If it's something not good, at least we hope there are clean margins when the results come back so he doesn't need more surgery.

Tuckie has a t-shirt on instead of an e-collar to protect the sutures. He is feeling pretty miserable from everything, plus it is 85 degrees here-it's either freezing temps or hot and humid!

Hi Deb, thankfully the vertigo hasn't hit for a few days. I go off the prednisone and back on the hydrocortisone tmw-I am praying the autoimmune things don't kick up again like it has the last couple times I weaned off the pred. I was on the pred longer this time, so we hope we kicked it's bum. I am worried with the lack of sleep the last 6 days though that things will start up again. I really am having a hard time functioning! My email, etc is so far behind! This too shall pass though. As long as the boyz are OK...I will be OK.
Not looking forward to more storms and 90 degrees tmw-ugh!!
hugs to u my friend!

I am back, ambling through the old neighborhood, and I see the Cindy's had some vertigo and Tuck is not feeling well either.  Well, Justice, looks like it's up to you this month to take care of your brother and mom.  Let me know if you need anything.  Tuck, no pooping on the deck.  Good boy.  Cindy, feel better soon. Tuck is hanging in there. He is still having some discomfort from the pancreatitis but he isn't hunching as much, thank goodness. He is still pretty quiet, but is moving around more.

Both boyz have been inside most of the day due to the weather. We broke a record for the temp today. The humidity sucks! The A/C is on in the house, and all the puppers are being couch potatoes.

Unfortunately both boyz have had seizure activity today.

Mike!! THANK U for making me smile and laugh-haven't done that in awhile!! Tuck said he will try to be a "good boy" and I will try to be a "good girl". You be a good boy too!!

Please tell Tuckie that it's hard running circles for him in this Texas weather so he just has to hurry up and get better!  My neighbors really wonder about me sometimes.  And I ran into the fence so I may stop running around the house and just run around the tree in my front yard.  I am sure Tuckie doesn't want the men in the white coats to take me away.  I also do snow dances in my front yard.  I think I am the entertainment for the neighborhood ;)

How are you doing?  If I need to start running around my neighbor's tree for you, I will do that too.  I figure I will just keep all the neighbor's guessing.  My one neighbor will let me borrow her magnolia tree...she won't call the men in the coats for me.

We are supposed to be 91 degrees today so it looks like summer is here.  I am glad we don't have the humidity on top of it but it is still hot.  People say we have a "dry" heat.  I tell them to turn their ovens on to 105 degrees and stick their head close to the opening (sometimes I say they can stick their head in it).  Hot is hot!  LOL.

Many prayers being said for you and the boys.

We all still are having concerns abt Tuckie. He is definitely better then he was from last Thursday thru this Tuesday, but just hasn't made further improvements in the last 2 days. It doesn't help that the humidity/heat is bothering him. I just turned on the A/C in my room, so hopefully he will rest a bit more comfortably.

Storms are coming very soon. It looks like they are at the freeway which is abt 20 minutes away.

Justie is at ONE DAY!! :magicmoon:

Hi Kat, Tuckie appreciates all the running in circles u are doing (I always feel like I am running in circles), but he wonders if u could just stay in ur house and run to the pantry (or wherever u keep pupper food). He hasn't had a good meal of kibble for 9 days (rice and mashed potatoes-both made with water only) has been his staple. He is getting some kibble now with the rice (the taters are for giving meds), but he wants more food-real food. So he thinks running back and forth to the pantry (or walking with purpose) would maybe set in motion for him to have a normal meal twice/day. Plus it would be much cooler!!
I am glad u have a neighbor who won't call the white coaters on u. But hey, if u can make Tuck better...it will help me too!! So stay inside!
It's 'only' 80 degrees today (unlike yesterday with heat index felt like in the 90's) but so sticky and humid. This weekend should be in the 70's!! YAY!!!
I imagine u know how I feel, but I am really not liking all these Mother's Day commercials--used to love the Hallmark ones-I will be glad when a week from Sunday is over. Geesh! There is a Mom's Day commercial on right this moment. <sigh> Well I'll think of all the moms of furkids here at IMOM and everywhere -maybe that will help when I see and hear Mother's Day stuff.
Hugs to u and the kids!!

Yeah, it is hard when Mom's day (and Dad's day) rolls around.  Even though my mom has been gone almost 25 years (she passed on 6/30/87) it is still hard.  But I try to focus elsewhere.  My mom's b-day would be tomorrow and that is also a hard day but I am sure she is celebrating with the angels.

Tell Tuckie I can run circles around my crew's dog food container if he would like.  Anything to make him get better.  It is hot here again today.  I am sure I will be saying that for the next 5 months anyhow...lol.  I just hope we don't have a summer like we did last year.  We broke all kinds of records and I don't want to try and break any this year.  We need rain again badly.  It thundered up a storm last night but not one drop of rain.

I hope Tuckie will start showing more improvement.  I bet the AC will help him.  My crew isn't staying outside longer than they have to.  They like the AC and the fans...lol.

I spoke with Niki abt Tuck. She said it's not surprising he still has some discomfort and isn't feeling well since his pancreatitis was severe. It still hurts my heart to see him not feeling well, but at least it's normal. I can't wait for the day he starts playing...

Justice is hiding behind the recliner in my room becuz Mandy was getting brushed and started screeching trying to make Carol stop. Of course Carol couldn't just stop or Mandy would know she just has to screech to get out of being brushed. Poor Justie.

Justice is at 2 days!! :pp_animal_568:

Hi Kat

It was hard on my mom's BD in February too. I'm thinking of u and sending hugs. I haven't liked the Hallmark Dad's Day commercials either since losing my dad many years ago. Even after so many years I still have a catch in my throat and heart when I see Father's Day ads, and now of course Mother's Day-especially with Dad's and Mom's with daughters.

Well good news for Tuckie-he gets to eat regular meals starting tmw. Just to get more calories I can add rice or mashed taters to his normal amount of food. He will be so happy!

I too hope we don't have a hot summer!!

Hugs!!

I'm so glad Tuckie is improving even if it is slow.  Poor justice, he just can't get a break with Mandy can he. Hoping too that that super dose of prednisone did the trick. I think its time for things to get on an even keel with you guys and give you a break xxx

Things are good here, this morning started out cloudy and dreary but after I froze my butt off mowing the back yard and decided to skip the rest the sun came out and it warmed up. Hoping next weekend will be warmer, I love to mow lawn but not when its cold.

My Mom's kidneys are not getting better. We are discussing dialysis. But she feels good most days some are better than others but she's getting out more so that is good.

The boyz are on the bed with me snoozing. Tuck is in his Garanimal "muscle" shirt so he can't lick his sutures, and he looks so cute.

Both boyz had seizure activity last night-maybe it was the "super moon" that caused it.

Niki came to visit today, and while here she listened to Tuck's lungs (to make sure he wasn't in congestive heart failure since he has been breathing so hard the past couple of days). He has some crackles in his lungs, but it's from his lung disease, not his heart. The heavy breathing is most likely from the steroids, so we decreased the dose.
She also felt his abdomen, and he still groans and winces when she is near the pancreas. So, we continue the Tramadol for pain, nausea med, and the antibiotic. She is going to call the IM doc Tuesday and see what he thinks.

Hi Deb, I had hoped Mandy's screeching wouldn't be an issue anymore for Justice since he hasn't heard her screech for a couple weeks, but obviously it still is. I hope as she gets older it won't continue being so high pitched.
We certainly have had some hot days that u would have loved so u could mow the lawn without freezing.
I hope ur mom's kidneys show improvement.
Hugs to u and the kids

Hoping too that as Mandy gets older the screeching becomes "less high pitched". I know with Riley there are certain things that bother him and no matter how long in between he still panics. I have been giving the boys melatonin and I have to say it has really helped with Riley's fear of thunderstorms and in general his nervousness about anything. Its not perfect but when we had thunderstorms the other night he lay in between the couch and the coffee table snoozing away and at bedtime I had to call him a few times to get him to move. It could have been he was sleeping too deeply and didn't hear me or it could be he was too comfortable to move lol.

I'm so glad it's the lung disease not heart problems that is causing the crackling in Tuckies lungs. One question though could that crackling turn into pneumonia? I hope he continues to improve with the pancreatitis poor little guy.

I never got to see the supermoon. Its been cloudy here every night. I've seen pictures though and it looked beautiful. I always have mixed feelings when I see the full moon. It's very beautiful and strikes awe, but then I think of the boys and how it affects them :/

Sad to say but my Mom's kidneys will never improve according to the Dr. It's a maintenance thing now hoping for them not to get any worse, but thanks so much for your thoughts I really appreciate it.

Supposed to be in the 70's on Saturday with full sunshine so I will get my lawn done then. At least I got the back done it was getting a bit to high for me and I didn't need any snakes popping their heads up out of there.

Hugs to you and the boys xxx

Tuck played for abt a minute today--that is actually improvement. Before he would literally try to play and within a matter of a few seconds he would stop playing and hunch and shiver. So I am happy he felt like playing with his giggle eggplant for a minute!
Niki spoke with the boyz internal medicine specialist today abt Tuck's gallbladder and what was shown on the 2 ultrasound's. He told Niki that if there ever was a case where adding the medication Ursodiol (AKA URSO and Actigall) could make a difference-this is the case. They are hoping the med will help the gallbladder becuz if it gets worse he could need his gallbladder removed.
I haven't asked either vet, but it makes me wonder if the reason Tuck ate the rocks in February was becuz he was nauseated due to his GB even back then. No one knows how long his GB has been "huge". It sure would explain why at age 11yo he suddenly started eating rocks. Both boyz lick carpet, floor, everything, and have pica when they are nauseated.
He goes to Niki's on the 18th for a quick look at his gallbladder to see if the Ursodiol has helped. He started the med tonight.

We had bad storms yesterday eve and also thru the night. Justie had CP's. Tuck is still having CP's.

Hi Deb, I sure wish the melatonin would make a difference with Justice's fear. Heck it's not even doing much for his Atypical Cushings at this point. Remember when the IM doc wouldn't place a new Melatonin Implant until Justice was at 6 months past the first implant he had- even though his symptoms started at 4 months? Then Justice FINALLY hit the 6 month mark the end of February and he placed a new implant in. This time he said if at 4 months Justice started showing symptoms he would place a new one then-but not before. Well this time he started showing symptoms the end of April (at 2 months!). So we have 2 more months of Justice making everyone crazy before his next implant. I am going to call the IM doc and see if I can at least supplement with oral. I hope I can-everyone is complaining abt his behavior 2 hours before dinner-he is frantic and wants his food NOW!.
I am glad it's helping Riley!

Yes, u are right, u always worry abt pneumonia with crackling. But for Tuck it's his chronic bronchitis/alveolitis. Now if he ever coughs a lot more then usual for several days he needs a chest xray.

I hope then ur mom stays status quo and can hold where she is at. I also hope the doc is wrong abt it never getting better-I'm gonna keep those positive thoughts becuz they can't hurt!

We have great weather forecast Thursday thru Saturday-high 60's and low 70's and no rain. YAY!! I am hoping Tuck will be feeling good by then so he can enjoy being outside.
Hugs to u and the kids.

Thanks so much angels!!
