hang in there Diana, it will happen.

Too bad the workers had to block up all her holes. could they not have left just one for her until you got her?

I dont' think the rescue remedy would work either. I don't know if you have a wegmans where you are, but here in NY they carry it. Healthfood stores should carry it also. We have one here called Green Star Market and they also carry it.

I hope she is safe soon. I know if anyone can do it Diana, its you.

It is going to be a long 2 days.  I went to fed Annabelle her last meal until Sunday. She was in the bushes, when I called her she look at me but still did not come to me she started walking further into the field.  (I am overwhelmed with sadness).  I don't know why she does not trust me yet, if she would only let me help her.  I left her dry and wet food and a bone to keep her busy til Sunday.

I just don't have a positive feeling that I will get her on Sunday, but if I don't, I don't know how much longer she can stay there between the on going construction and now that they have fixed the fence if she starts digging holes again they may start to get upset.

Please Anna let me help you start a new beginning. Stay safe and I will see you on Sunday (hopefully).

Diana,
I know it's extreme, but have you thought about getting someone to help by darting her?  I don't know what else to suggest as it sounds like she's going to lose her "home" shortly.  I'll be thinking of you this weekend and hope that Anna realizes that she needs to let you help her...

Hi Diana, I'm glad Kris brought up darting as I'd thought about this too. Yes, it seems like a desparate measure, but might be worth it if there's any possibility. What is on the other side of the fence? Can you get over there so if she can't get through you might be able to put a trap over there?

Well, we know you'll be stressed over all this until something is resolved. Bless you again for taking it and so much general goodness on.  Our hearts will be with you on this weekends rescue attempt!

Darting would be a good idea, if she doesn't trust you yet. Could you conact Paw Placement and see if they have or know of someone who would be able to do this for you.

I hope it goes well this weekend. I'll keep checking back for news

Paw Placement nor the other rescues have access to a dart and they say the same thing, god for bid she took off and got hit by a car etc.  The ony people that do darts are Vets and they won't help.  I have to see what happens tomorrow and then figure out what to do from there.  The fenced area is always locked and the company said they would escort me in the area, but I don't have the freedom to go in anytime.  I will keep you posted.

Thanks guys.

Diana,
I watch that show Animal Planet Heroes Phoenix -- I think it's the ASPCA that it's about.  Anyway, was watching a show not too long ago and watched them dart a dog, because I remember thinking about you being in Phoenix.   Maybe an organization like that would help?  The dog they darted was also very close to traffic.  The dog bolted initially, but not very far at all - like maybe 20 feet - then got really groggy and went down.  People who know how to dart plan for the "what ifs" like traffic, etc.  They're pros at it and I'm sure have done it a number of times.  Here's their phone number:  (602) 246-8280.  If nothing else, maybe they could find someone to help you!

Here's are numbers for the Animal Defense League of Arizona:

Statewide Administration Office
P.O. Box 43026
Tucson, AZ 85733
(520) 623-3101
adla@adlaz.org

Northern Arizona Regional Office
P.O. Box 1973, Flagstaff, AZ 86002

(928) 773-8028

Central Arizona Regional Office
P.O. Box 33093, Phoenix, AZ 85067
phoenix@adlaz.org
(602) 273-7842

Southern Arizona Regional Office
P.O. Box 43026, Tucson, AZ 85733
tucson@adlaz.org
(520) 623-3101

Under "Stray Dogs & Cats" on their home page, they had these numbers listed:

Citizens for North Phoenix Strays| 602-375-2428
Citizens for Scottsdale Strays| 480-990-4428

They have a great website with tons of information for not only dogs and cats, but birds, horses, burros, etc.  Animal Defense League of Arizona

Kris, thank you soo much, we are on our way now to try to rescue Annabelle, if today's rescue does not work I will start calling the numbers you gave me first thing in the morning.   Again thank you so much for your concern for Annabelle, she does not realize that there are so many good people in this world, she must have only experienced the bad one.

Coopercloud Ranch the rescue that is going to take her thru Paw Placement is a home based rescue, so Annabelle will be in a home, not a kennel. Robin said she has a dog that has been with her 2 years already because the dog is still fearful of people.  The great thing is Robin said Annabelle can stay with her for as long as she needs, there is no timeframe and no rush to adopt her out.  Robin will work with her and I plan on going to visit and help Annabelle get use to people.

Wish me luck and will let you know as soon as I get back.

THANKS EVERYONE>>>>>>>>>

Good luck Diana - I will be thinking of you

Our Nikko came from a resuce like the one you describe - he spent 13 months there waiting for a forever family after he was rescued from a collector that had 27 dogs in a double wide trailer - being held captive - 16 were dead, the others cannibalized the dead to survive - Nikko was one of 6 they thought could be rehabbed - and 13 months later we were blessed to meet him and make him a part of our family

Never give up

Thank you WIK, I wish I had good news, but I don't.  My husband and I brought the trap to Annabelle's locations. Placed some Steak and Arby's RB in the trap and a little outside so she can eat a little then hopefully go in the trap.  We left for awhile, came back, no sign of her.  After 3 & 1/2 hours still no sign of Annabelle, she did not even touch the food that was outside the trap.  I went back to my job and called for her, again no signs.  So I put the trap behind my office building closed (can't take a chance on catching another animal at this time).  I left the food by Annabelle's original location. Tomorrow I will call all the numbers Kris gave me, contact Indian Reservations to see if maybe they can help me with a dart gun and go to the company that owns the area Anna is staying in to see if they would allow me to place the trap inside the fence.  I will never give up, my fear is with each passing day I am losing her instead of rescuing her.  I don't know where she could have went today.

Thanks for all the support will keep you all informed.

Oh darnit Diana -- I was so sure you would be successful today.  I hope the phone numbers help.  There has to be someone that can help dart her or do something else to help you.  I know there are others out there who care a lot, so I guess it's just finding the right one.   Anna sweetie, please stay safe until Diana can get you out of there...

When we were driving back to check on Anna, my husband seen something black as we turned on the block and said "she is in there" my heart dropped, I was so excited and nervous at the same time, saying OMG is this the right thing, what if she is crying, scared (I truly am not strong when I see an animal weak, sad or hurt).  But as we got closer we realized she was not in the trap, even my husband was upset.  I am hoping to see her in the morning then at least I know she is still around and I will move as quickly as I can to find help.  Everything happens at once of course, I am working on another large project at work, coordinating our kick off which is next Tuesday for over 600 employees.  My girlfriend from back east is coming in next Wednesday and we are driving to Sedona.  This is all bad timing.   I already asked one of my co-workers if in the event I don't catch Annabelle before next Wed will she please feed her for me, and Cindy said of course.  I don't want to leave, but my girlfriend already purchased her tickets, she has a race in Sedona on Saturday, how can I tell her sorry AGAIN, but timing is not good.

Thank you all, I did not see Annabelle at all today.. I went to the company and they said I can put the trap in the fenced in area, which I did this morning.  I called the numbers Kris  gave me no returned calls as of yet.  I was so nervous about the trap being in the fenced area, I only have access from 7AM - 3PM and that is when the workers are in there, so I went back around 1PM, she did not touch the food, so I closed the trap end, opened the other end where the food is and if the food is gone then I know for sure she is still there, But what happens if she gets trapped at 4:00PM and I can't get to her until 7:00AM, I can't bear her being in the trap for so many hours, I am truly at a lose on what to do.  I went to the Indians Reservations Security office, but no one was there so I plan on calling their Animal Control directly to see about a dart gun.  My stomach is in knots I don't know what is right anymore.  I just wish she would come to me and jump in my car (okay someone else's car LOL) and off we go to a new life.

Will keep you informed.  Thanks again.

Did not see Annabelle this evening either.  Tomorrow's plan is not to feed her until around 3PM, put the food in the trap and pray all night that she goes in.

Even though I have not seen Annabelle since Friday, I am happy to report that one of my co-workers seen her last night.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hi Diana,

I just wanted to let you know that when I came back from dinner tonight, I heard footsteps behind me. I thought I was being followed! And it turns out I was - by Annabelle smile.gif

I tried to call you to see if maybe you still had some food at your desk for her, but I didn't want to bother you with a voicemail. I bought her a hamburger from the vending machine and I put some water out in the back field for her. She wouldn't come more than about 5 yards away from me. But I did stand out there and made sure she ate.

I just wanted you to know that she is around and well and had some food tonight.

Lisa
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So once again there is hope, now confused on where I should place the trap.  For tonight I will leave it in the fenced area and put some fresh food out.

Diana,
I'm so glad Lisa saw her - at least you know she's O.K.!  Are you going to cover the back part of the trap?  I've never trapped a dog, but it seems to me that if it's covered, it may look more like a den?  Any dog trappers on the board who can advise?

Good luck and we'll all be sending messages to Anna that she MUST go in the trap!!  Don't worry about her being in there overnight.  It's better that you catch her.  She'll settle down and will be O.K. in the trap for those few hours.

I have never felt so helpless, not sure if I can given go into it all.  After I received Lisa's email I figured okay I will go and check to see if Anna ate the food in the trap I placed yesterday (assuming she did), then I would not put any more food in until 3PM when the workers get ready to leave.  I went to the trap and the food was not touched at all which concerned me because I did not have the trap set and the food was very close to the opening at the other end so she could have easily ate the food while standing outside the trap.  At this point I am thinking maybe she can't get into the area anymore due to the landscaping, so I look around and realized there was only one side of the fence area that has not been landscape and maybe she can't get in, so I called Natalie (another co -worker who helped me move the trap yesterday, and she came over and we decided to move the trap back behind my office building. Before we took the trap back I went and talked with the main landscaper and he said he has not seen her since Friday night, but then tells me that he is not sure if she had pups or not because they did find a dead dog in the area on Friday and it was very obvious the dog died of starvation, my heart dropped, after talking for a few minutes he said that Anna nipples are not hanging and swollen and the dog was pretty big, about 7 to 8 months old, that is how old I am guessing Anna is, so I said maybe they were together and the other one died.  What is very strange is that they did not see the dead dog before, but seen it on Friday in the open area? Could Anna been protecting it in the bushes? I don't know? but this only makes me more upset.

At 3PM I get a call from the landscapers and they say Anna is there again now, there was not much I can do and said okay I will come over.  I got there about 30mins later and they are all gone, the fence is locked so I start walking and see Anna laying in the open field, not in the bushes just on the dirt (It has been raining on and off all day, so it is damp out).  I call her name she looks and decides to walk further in the back of the field, at this time the security guard pulls up with his cart and says, did they call you she was her earlier, I said yes and she is now in your fenced area, can I get in, he said sure I have the key and we head over to the lock, as he is opening the lock THE HEAD OF Indians Reservations (Gary, same guy who was starting to get annoyed with me in July about Faith) and same Guy who 3 weeks ago pulled me over and said you need to inform us of what you are doing and I said I actually have, I went to each company, and your security and gave them Anna's fliers etc.   As he pulls up I said you need to speak to me and he said no.  So I start walking in the fenced area knowning he is talking to the security guard. I don't see Anna and did not want to take too long because they are both outside the gate waiting.  As I come back, the security guard starts to say, you know you should not be here alone at night, (Gary definately said something to him, because now he is not as friendly, then he says what do you plan on doing with the dog, etc.  Gary then says I worry about you, I know what you are trying to do and I have informed my staff but you can get arrested and if they don't know you, you will go to jail, everyone here knows when someone is not part of our community and people talk.  Basically they are telling me I need to back off and probably won't have the companies support anymore to go there and continue to look for Annabelle.  I figured I am in shit now so what the hell and asked if maybe their Animal Control could help me with a dart gun and Gary said he has never seen them use the dart gun.. Blah Blah Blah..

I cried the entire way home, I am at a complete loss, Anna won't go into the trap by my job, I am not welcomed at the other location anymore. I am going out of town next week and can't leave the trap out forever.

I am so sick, I can't even think anymore.

I think covering the trap may be a good idea.  Sometimes an animal can see and smell the food, but can't figure out how to get to it, they will scratch on the side of the cage, rattle it and spook them off.  If they find the opening, this way they can now see the food, inside it's quiet and may venture in.

Covering can also backfire with a spooky animal, it's a new scary thing and  Annabelle may be wary of it.

No Annabelle today, but I did not look for her, when I went out to buy her Arby's it started to down pour and of course I was hoping she was hiding somewhere dry, almost afraid to go to her other hiding place now.  So after work I put fresh food and a clean sheet out (covered the back of the trap), called her a few times and then just went home.

I did find out that a few co workers are feeding her as well and two of them said they would like to adopt her. I asked them to please put any food into the trap not to give to her directly.

I am out of town a few days next week and two of my co workers promised to check the trap and feed her at night.  Paw Placement said if she gets caught in the trap someone will come and take her to the other rescue, so I feel  a little better about next week, but still trying to cover this weekend.  Annabelle has totally taken over my every thought and I can't seem to snap out of it. I feel angry with the world, maybe the beginning of a breakdown and I need to take a break from all this....

THAT ANNABELLE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY... GOOD NEWS (I Hope). So I come into work morning knowing I wont' see Annabelle in the trap, but to my surprise, I noticed that all the food is GONE and I see foot prints on the sheet, the prints were less then half an inch away from the trigger that closes the gate.  Can you believe it, she went in the trap, ate the food and was smart enough not to step on the ledge.  I pulled the bowl further to the back of the trap and added more food, at least I know she went in there.  It had to be her anything else would have got caught.  So I am hopeful once again.

Thanks everyone.

That is great news. Poor Annabelle, if she only understood you are trying to help her.

Have you tried Puparoni?  I was able to get one of the dumped dogs with that. I actually corralled her in my bosses yard and shut the gate. Then I got my neighbor who helps me take dogs and cats away from abusive people (grrrr) and he came over and got her with the puparoni treats.

I wonder if she would go in after the treats. With cats, I usually put a little food outside and then put small amounts in the trap which draws the cat into the trap. Most of the food is at the end of course. Kind of gets them eating it and liking it and then they go in. I caught the impossible cat with poached people salmon- I was watching the trap (have to around here) and she was having such a good time with the salmon she didn't even notice the door had closed.

Good luck and thank you for caring about the unwanted ones. Rescue is a very lonely job

Kathy
