Hi Victoria, thanks for visiting.  Since you see that Guy is a sweetheart, I'm posting for you this photo of Guy sleeping in my hand.  What a good guy.  Thank you for the info about the possibility of a Mesa Grant; I'd like to look into that.  I wish I knew about it a few weeks ago! I just had to spend $800 at the internal medicine and cardiology specialists' offices.

Tracy, it's really nice to get your well wishes.  I would like to know how you found out that Cody has IBD.  According to the vet, there is no simple test for this.  They would have to do an endoscopy to know for sure.  Best wishes!

I would like to know how you found out that Cody has IBD.  According to the vet, there is no simple test for this.  They would have to do an endoscopy to know for sure.

Mike, You're right - there's no one test for IBD, unfortunately. Cody's diagnosis was arrived at by elimination of other possible causes that do have tests, such as lymphoma. The vet also did some x-rays, to see if there was a mass, gave antibiotics to see if it was just an infection, and prescribed Kaopectate. When the meds didn't work and the x-ray revealed no mass, we did the endoscopy. Two vets palpated his abdomen several times during those visits - I think we made 3 or 4 visits in about 3-4 weeks to try to figure this out. They always told me they felt thickening of his intestines, which they told me is a symptom of IBD. That, and the endoscopy results, led to the diagnosis.

I'm sending good thoughts for you and Guy. I hope he's feeling well this week.

Guy is still cute today.  Just thought I'd keep you all posted on his cuteness.

Hi Juli.  The PLI (pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity) test was "equivocal."  Guy's level of 11.3 microgram/L was out of the reference range of 2.0-6.8, but still below the very high levels of cats with serious pancreatitis.  The lab suggests retesting after a few weeks, so I will have the test run again at Guy's next blood panel, which will be next week.  

Meanwhile, I am happy to report that Guy has gained weight.  He was 9 pounds most of his life, 8 pounds when diagnosed on March 1st, 7.5 pounds by mid-April, and dropped at one point in June to nearly 7 pounds.  He stabilized at 7.5 pounds for the rest of the summer.  The past few weeks, with the extra fluids and some new food that he likes, he has climbed back to 8 pounds!!! You should have seen me dancing around the scale pumping my arms in the air as if I'd just won the lottery.

Cody's throwing up became very frequent - sometimes he'd throw up several times a day. His appetite started to wane, his weight dropped, and he started having diarrhea.

I'm glad that Guy has gained weight.   I know the feeling of wanting to do the happy dance around the scale - Cody got weighed by the vet on Saturday. When she told me he had gained weight - several ounces - we both said "YAY!" CRF can be a roller coaster ride, like Kathy said; take any victories you can get Good luck with Guy's next pancreas test. I'm glad that, at first glance, his levels don't appear to be in the range for serious pancreatitis.

And yes, Guy is forever cute :-)

One question though - I read an earlier post about what Guy eats and didn't see the k/d dry food mentioned.  Just want to make sure before I send it - do you think he will eat the k/d dry?  If so, I will be happy to send that as well as the fluids & other stuff.

Hi Julie, thanks for sharing the supplies.  I'm sorry Friday is no longer with you -- what a cute cat!  

Guy's main dry food is the Hill's k/d, but since you are sending me some other supplies, go ahead and send the k/d to Wally and Vanessa.  In fact, I saw on Wally's forum that Vanessa is picking up a case of fluids -- maybe she could use some of the fluids you have, so please feel free to send her a couple cases.

Well, Guy's follow-up pancreatitis test came back ... equivocal again.  So it looks like he has mild pancreatitis, but as long as he seems to feel well enough, the vet says to do nothing about it.

Hi Mike, you were right, I LOVE the picture of Guy soaking up his belly rubs. Aaaah, such contentment. Sorry to here about the mild pancreatitis. The vet said do nothing? Not even any suggestions to help prevent it from getting worse?

Hi everyone,
I'm a little confused, because I posted on Nov. 2 that Guy was eating well and that the vet said there's nothing to do -- the treatment would be steroids, which have side effects.  I don't see that post now.  Oh well.  The important part of it was that I had an appointment with Guy for a belly-rubbing photo shoot, so hopefully we'll have some new pictures for his fans soon.  Stay tuned!
