Brookylnn is a 5 yr old female Pittie who was diagnosed with a Diaphragmatic Hernia (This occurs when the abdominal organ -such as the stomach, liver, intestine, etc.) moves into an abnormal opening in the animal's diaphragm.

This condition can become Life Threatening in an instant, the longer she goes without treatment the greater the risk.

Brooklynn has already had signs of respiratory distress, so we have little time to wait.

This is an intensive surgery and must happen ASAP.

Donations of any size can be made at our Donations page, please mark your gift "Brooklynn Monette" or if your prefer our Paypal address is paypal@imom.org

Brooklynn's mom is a full time student, so she will be here just as soon as she is able, to tell us all about her special girl.

We need your help Angels, we must get this gal into surgery. If you can't donate, you can still help.

Share Brooklynn's Forum page on all those Social Networking Sites and with all your friends.

Please meet Brooklynn

I am SO THRILLED to see Brooklynn up here for fund raising...

Just know that the most important thing you can do is post, post and then post some more...I see that you have raised a lot of money already and are working on more...share that with the IMOM angels...let them know what you've done so far...communication is most important...

Tell stories about Brooklynn...I can tell she is pretty darn special to you and you want to make the others love her as you do...

I know that time is of the essence...I just posted Brooklynn's IMOM thread on Facebook...do you TWITTER? If so...Twitter away...

Ask others to share her story and and ask if their friends will do the same...

Don't feel that you are alone...people are reading even if they don't post...I go to bed early but wanted to get a post in to let you know that there ARE people that care...know that...and believe...

I'll be up bright and early tomorrow to check in to see how things are going...

How soon after funds are raised can the specialist do the surgery?

Keep us posted on things and GOOD LUCK!!! Judy

Hi everyone-

This is Jessica Monette- Brooklynn's mother! I would first like to thank everyone for the opportunity of being on this forum, and everyone trying to help make this possible for my princess. She is just that! I have had her since she was about 8 weeks old. She has always been my bright shining light and brought so much joy to everyone! She has the most loving personality, always in for a good cuddle. She has always been the dog that invites people in, says hello, and loves, no matter what!

This past week has been extremely devastating for me. Sunday night she had a very scary respiratory episode, she was struggling to breathe and very anxious. I called the vet and went in for an emergency visit. Upon further examination and approx. 5 xrays later he notified me that she had presence of bowel in her chest cavity. He explained that it was a hole in her diaphragm and it would need to be surgically fixed, but he didn't feel he was able to perform the surgery since she was in such a struggle and if anything went wrong he wasn't supplied with equipment to handle the situation. He referred me to a specialist in Seattle, which is 3 hours away. after some sedatives that were prescribed kicked in off we went. Unfortunately the cost was too high to send her into surgery right away, so I find myself searching for all options to save her.

She is such a strong spirit and I know we can get through this. She IS my baby, my child, and believe me I treat her as such! She loves to go on walks, especially the local bike trail that we have in town on the river. In the summers she loves to run through the shallow end and eat up the water as she trots along the shore.

Thank you so much for your time and i shall continue her story.........

It's kinda funny........ when we first met (before she was weaned from her mother) I just knew she was my little princess........... we had a special connection. When I had come back through the next 2 weeks, before she was ready to come home with me and I made visits to build our connection, it just came to me. It was strange, so fitting, so exactly her (: I decided Brooklyn was to generic and it should be special, so the second n was added. Over the years she has adopted MANY nicknames, mama, baby, chicken (as she is even scared of the wind and her own shadow),brooke-a-bee, mama B, Baby B, and my favorite of all weasel dog (because she started to do this pose like a weasel standing on its back legs when she REALLY wants a biscuit, as seen below with my dad)

(:

Some Angels may be wondering why Jessica does not seek help for her sweet princess from a less expensive vet ... She wrote a wonderful response to that inquiry back on Introductions, and I thought it would be worth "copying & pasting" here for everyone to read:

Unfortunately even my regular vet is uncomfortable performing the surgery and recommended that I use the specialist. The side effects of the surgery are to risky to be in a regular vet office. They are concerned that when the intestines and other organs are removed from her chest cavity that the lungs might not function fully on their own initially and they will fill with fluid and that is something only specialists are equipped to deal with! I wish that my regular vet could perform the surgery because he is familiar with her and it isn't so far away from my home. Luckily I have family in Seattle area that I can stay with while she has to be hospitalized so I won't have any extra expenses with that, and I DEFINITELY must respect my vet for being honest that he doesn't feel comfortable performing the surgery. Thanks for the advice, I'm not that savvy as well but I have posted on facebook and am still seeking support any/everywhere I can (:

Jessica & Brooklynn

Thank you Jessica. Your love, dedication, full appreciation and understanding of the severity of Brooklynn's condition really comes through in your posts !!!!:bravo: for ALL the hard work you have been doing to raise funds to help get your princess the surgery she so needs !!!!!!:)

It's the weekend - and it can sometimes be a little quiet around here. However, please, don't let that be off-putting to you, Jessica. Angels will still be reading when they can ... and if Brook-a-bee's Thread is posted on Facebook and then cross-posted on others' FB accounts - it will help spread the word about her most vital need for funds ~ the sooner the better, "before" it becomes life threatening !!!!!!

Angels --- PLEASE ------ Brooklynn needs YOU !!!!! Jessica has been working SO incredibly hard to raise most of the money needed for this beautiful girl's MOST IMPORTANT SURGERY ...... Is there any way to get her the remaining $ 1,040 this weekend . . . . PLEASE ????

I know they would be fur-ever grateful if the "Magic" of that special LBK :magicmoon: got to working over-time this weekend !!!!!!! Can you check the cushions, coat and pant pockets, hold off on Weekend Brunch ~ and please .... donate it ALL to this beautiful Pitie who desperately needs Surgery for a Diaphragmatic Hernia !!!

Thank you in advance Angels ~ to each and every single one of you ~ for any and all help you can give to Jessica and her beautiful Brooklynn: she is

my child !!!!!!
I just KNOW you will be able to help save her !!!!!! God bless you ALL for everything you do - and your most generous, caring and loving hearts !!!!!:Angel15::wub:

Jessica, GREAT JOB posting photos and telling SWEET, SWEET stories about Brooklynn...and yes, she did need a SPECIAL name...

You have done an amazing job raising funds outside of IMOM, what have you done??

And I see that you have come up want a lot of the funds needed? Do you actually have the $4,000.00 yet or are you still working on that??

I am wondering how soon after the funds are raised can you get surgery scheduled? If you are working with a specialist (which I agree, this is a serious surgery so you must be prepared for whatever could happen) are they going to be able to work out a surgery time and date right away??

Over the week end I'd work out a list of questions for the specialist, such as the time frame for scheduling surgery and anything else you think of ahead of time...you know, when you are nervous and worried sometimes you forget what you want to ask and then have to either call again or go in...and in your case, a three hour trip wouldn't be easy...

Watch over your girl and keep up the good job of posting...it really does work...check your facebook page and post updates there...and I will keep posting on mine and IMOM's also...Believe me, there are angels and :magicmoon: out there...

I am going to have to go out soon and run errands...believe me, the first I do is check IMOM when I get back...hoping for some good posts and even better...some good news...Judy

Good morning Everyone,

I can't thank you all enough for your loving support of "our" beloved dog, Brooklynn. Brooklynn is my "grand dog" and she is such an amazing and loving dog, not to mention who has such a funny and unforgettable personality! She is so special to our family, which is why we're reaching out to others to help save our special family member. We also refer to her as Weasel dog because she feels that every time she needs love, she has to go into this "weasel" position and get closer to us.

To everyone on the board~ you have GREAT questions and I appreciate them all and will answer them all for you-

1. It says that I am asking for just 1,000.00 and have the other 4500. I have been fundraising from other sources and have so far come up with 4000 on my own (including the little savings I have). I am so lucky to have friends and family that have come through via facebook, my community, family, friends and a specific charity (friends for life out of Bellingham WA) that donated 2000 on it's own! I am sooooooo blessed as many have not even met Brooklynn, yet trust my seriousness and know that I would NEVER ask if this wasn't serious.

2. The specialist that I have been working with have scheduled her surgery for This next Tues. They can get her into surgery any Tues/Thurs (as these are the days when that specific surgeon and proper assistants for the surgery are all together)and have held the earliest time slot for her for the next month. but I was hoping to have the money this Tues as it is heartbreaking/devistating to make the call the night prior and say that the money isn't together yet.

3. I am currently a student in the RN (nursing) program in the town that I reside so I think that might actually make my anxiety worsened due to the fact that I medically FULLY understand what is going on inside my baby. I am thankful that this makes me knowledgeable at recognizing the signs and symptoms of worsening distress. As far as questions go, I keep in contact with the surgeons/staff/financing department at the specialist and they have been NOTHING but understanding/open with me. The only saddening downfall is the fact that they won't allow me to make payments on the rest of her surgery.

Please keep the questions coming for me........... but for now a bit more about my baby- (:

Miss Brooke-a-bee truly believes she is a 20lb dog but unfortunately she is stuck in a 70lb body (: With this in mind she is always trying to cuddle up on your lap and snuggle in bed with you (yup she gets the joy of sleeping in my queen size bed with me). virtually every morning when I wake up she is on her proper 3/4 of the bed and I am squeezed into the last 1/4 (: I love it and wouldn't change a thing. The good part about her manners is that she won't invite herself into bed and never has. You don't have to say much to get her up into bed but I never find her in it on her own which reminds me of her manners (: She is well equipped around the house with 3 other HUGE dogbeds (the ones from costco) and she has more blankets around the house than me (: as you can see she sleeps comfortably and in style!

Jessica, GREAT JOB with the questions...and you know what..perhaps that helps with your anxiety...as you said, studying to be an RN gives you the inside story as to what is happening and worse, what could happen to Brooklynn..

ALSO, TREMENDOUS JOB with your outside fund raising...BRAVO TO YOU...

The answers you gave to the questions was PERFECT in my eyes...you seem to be totally under control...and I know why...you're doing it for your GIRL...and you love her...there is no other reason needed either...

Brooklynn has a wonderful family....we need to make sure that she can get her surgery, get all fixed up and get back to them AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...

I am so glad to see that surgery can happen as soon as Tuesday...that means we have the rest of today, tomorrow and I'd be comfortable saying, half of Monday to get the funds raised...

I am going to post an update to IMOM's facebook page so they can read about what you've done already...

MORE stories about your girl...I love every word you write...and, more photos, please...

One of my dogs, Pepper, just had a mammary tumor removed and the final cost ended up being less than the low end of the estimate, so she asked me to make a donation to Brooklynn! Just sent in $50, and hope that Brooklyn can get in this Tuesday.

Jessica...you mentioned a visit...does that mean you have an appointment on Tuesday or is surgery scheduled for Tuesday?

I don't know if you know of not but IMOM does not fund raise after the surgery takes places, so the funding would end if the surgery happens on Tuesday...

I am hoping that ALL FUNDS WILL BE RAISED by then so there is no worry...and the best thing that could happen would be for the surgery to come in UNDER BUDGET.....

How is Brooklynn doing? I imagine that she must be kept totally quiet...

Do you have school tomorrow? We'll need to work hard today to get donations in so we don't have to worry tomorrow...Judy

Hello All-

Just a few posting replies to Judy and a little update on some Brooklynn stories for you......

1. As I have mentioned...... If I don't have all the money- I will have to cancel the surgery that is scheduled on Tuesday. The vet has held the first appointments for her for the next few weeks for surgery days in hopes that the money will be raised........ So I hope that the dates don't discourage people from donating to her!

2. Since the onset of her respiratory problems Miss Brooklynn is very sleepy (she is on a mild sedative to prevent her from overexertion) she sleeps most of the day/night which is sad for me to see because she is usually so energetic, loving and playful :broken_heart:

I can't wait for her to return to normal (as I am praying that the surgery, when it happens, will go to it's best!)

here is a picture of Miss Brooklynn resting next to her friend (my mom's dog KC) in the living room at my parents house............ one of her favorite places to be (: Here she gets to be off leash and spend lots of time running around, rounding up the horses, chasing birds and being a puppy. We like to yell "get the birds" and she just runs around looking for any sign of movement, her ears perk and she runs full speed, so fast that sometimes her hind legs out run her front. She is esentially just following my parents dog because once she finds any birds she runs away. I'm not sure she would even know what to do if a bird actually go close to her, I think that the bird might win (: These are from a few months ago but please enjoy and I hope that these help you feel more connected and a part of our family!

Brooklynn has received $90 in donations so far. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped.

:thanks3:

We are still $950 away from our goal to get this sweetie into surgery.

Angels we are running out of time. Every day that Brooklynn has to wait, becomes more and more of a risk that she could end up in a Life Threatening Situation.

Time to raid those piggy banks, dig in those couch cushions, pack a lunch and skip that fancy coffee.

Donations of any size can be made at our Donation page, please mark your gift "Brooklynn Monette" or if your prefer our Paypal address is paypal@imom.org

We have to get Brooklynn into surgery ASAP. She needs all the Angels! Please crosspost her forum page on all your social networking sites. Let's get the word out far and wide!

It's me again- I just was going through some pictures on my computer and they reminded me of some more fun Brooklynn stories-

My family owns a small cabin on Bonaparte Lake near the Canadian border and this is one of Brooklynn's favorite places also. There are many small lakes to hike to, fun overlooks and great times for all. She gets to be off leash when we hike but she always checks back on her people as the hike is going. She will run up and down ravines and when we hike about 3 miles I swear she has done 8-10 (: Below are pictures of my boyfriend and I at the overlook, and Miss Brooklynn just laying (we leash up at this point because the drop off is pretty scarey and wouldn't want anything to happen)

As I've posted before, this dog doesn't have a mean bone in her body and when she comes across other wildlife she is just as curious and as sweet as you could imagine. I believe this next photo shows it all (:

She is such a wonderful part of my life and I'm not ready for our journey together to end! Thanks for all the love and support we have received!

IMOM angels...this pretty girl, Brooklynn, has a young Momma who does SO MUCH with her girl...she has a wonderful life camping, enjoying the beautiful sights with her Momma and LOOKING FOR BIRDS...

She can have her surgery on Tuesday...IF...we can help with the balance of the funds needed to get her there...

All we need to help with $950.00...

Jessica has raised the rest ALL ON HER OWN...now, she is asking for just a little help...

Brooklynn, is on a sedative to keep her quiet as she can become CRITICAL AT ANY TIME...we can't let this happen...after Jessica has worked so hard to make her surgery a reality...

Can't we help?? Don't think that you can't make a big enough donation...EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS...they all add up...

It's the beginning of a new year...what a better way to start the year out - by helping a cherished pet get well again, and it's especially rewarding to help someone that is trying so hard...

If you can't donate...it's understandable...but can you share and cross post Brooklynn's thread on IMOM??? Spreading the word is what needs to happen...it makes all the difference in the world...Judy

Jessica...IF we aren't able to make all funds raised on Tuesday...does that mean that Thursday is the next option for Brooklynn??

I would hate to think we would have to wait until then...but...worst cast scenario...

IMOM angels...Brooklynn and her Momma need our help and it sure would be nice if we could help them out...$950.00 is such a doable amount...considering that there has been $4,000.00 raised already and we just need that little bit more...

Can't we help??

As I said before, don't think you can't make a big enough donation...it's the first of the year and everyone is always wanting to go on a diet...how about sending in a donation to Brooklynn so you can't go "out to lunch" or grab some fast food...not only will it help this sweet girl but you can maybe lose a couple of lbs...I am going to have to think about that myself!!! Hi, Jessica,

You are doing a wonderful job of posting stories and pics-keep it up. I think Judy mentioned that weekends can be slow, but I know the angels will work their Magic soon for Brooklynn.

I can't donate as I have PIN kids here at IMOM in the chronic illness forum, but many angels know my boyz, Tucker and Justice. We lost Tucker's sister, Abbie, unexpectedly on Thursday. Our house is so empty without her. But I know Abbie would want Brooklynn getting the surgery that she needs, so I am asking if any angels could donate to Brooklynn in memory of Abbie? Judy G donated to the boyz fund in memory of Abbie and it made us feel so much better. So maybe someone could do it for Brooklynn too? It helps keeps Abbie's memory alive...

Please angels a donation of any amount will help Brooklynn. She is obviously so well loved...let's get her into surgery.

Hugs to Brooklynn.

Cindy, Tuck and Justice

***MATCHING CHALLENGE***

***IMOM will match dollar for dollar the next $300 we receive in donations***

Now is your chance to make your donation double! Let's get Brooklynn the funds she needs, so she can have surgery on Tuesday.

This sweet baby is patiently waiting. Her condition is very serious, she should not wait any longer for surgery.

Brooklynn needs to get back to being a happy, playful girl. Let's make that happen Angels.

If you can help, visit our Donations page. No amount is to small, please mark your donation "Brooklynn Monette"

I know we can reach our goal!
