Tucker and Justice Van Allen - Part 6

1,322 posts in this topic

Bella and I are checking in on the boys.

I hope Tucker has a better day today - want that silly little nipper back to feeling like himself!!!

Gald Justice is doing okay. It's been a rough week at Cindy's house. Boys, give your mum lots of schanuzzie snuggles.

PS - Andee has had a rough tummy day, he finally ate this morning, so I hope he's feeling better, he stole a freezer french toast from Bella on Friday - I knew he was doomed.

Andee also had to say good bye to his best doggy friend (I should say ONLY doggy friend) Duncan. Duncan was a darling rescued Keeshund, who we would frequently walk with. Duncan didn't know this, but he helped us tremendously during those early weeks when I wasn't so sure Andee would tolerate other people and other dogs. Duncan never persued with sniffing or anything else that Andee would see as threatening or dominant behavior, and just walked quietly with his mum - a true gentleman. Duncan was also Lady's friend, he would romp with her, somehow he seemed to be able to read other dogs and instantly knew what to do. He's missed terribly. Duncan also helped his mum with the rescued cats, he befriended them all, even the feral colony here weren't worried when he was near.

Thank you Splight for sponsoring Tucker! Thinking of your dear LuckyDog.

:wbd3:

In order for Tucker to have more WBDs he needs $34 more per month in monthly sponsorship. Can you help Tucker wiggle his butt?

The boys made it through the night!

Justice is at THREE DAY'S!!!

===============J :icecream3::turtle:=================

Tuck seems much better! He isn't all manic in everything he does, and so far no seizures today. The little guy seems exhausted--and boy, I am--so he must be even more so--he hasn't even played today. But it isn't like he is sick, it's that finally he can be calm.

We'll see how the rest of the afternoon and evening goes, but I am cautiously optimistic whatever it was is over--the Keppra kicked in, and I hope he will be back on the train soon.

I call the neuro in the AM.

Hi Linda, ohhhh a freezer french toast--yup I bet u did know Andee was doomed. I am glad he is doing better, and ate this AM. Poor baby.

I am so sorry abt Duncan. That pupper was sure something special. His mum must be heartbroken. He sounds like he was an angel on Earth.

Hugs to u and Andee.

Thanks so much angels!

This will test our superstition about posting (our-or mine-yeah, it's mine). Little sigh of relief for Tuck! Keeping everything crossed here!

Linda-please send condolences to the family of Duncan and I am so sorry to you-what a wonderful dog he must have been.

Thanks Juli (and thanks again splight).

Angels, I do need to order the boys meds at the end of the week. If u can't sponsor Tuck, but could make a one time donation it would be so appreciated.

I need to get the boys labs in abt 3 weeks. They have their 6 month check-up the beginning of February. A week or two before their 6 month appt, they need to have a full blood profile, CBC with differential, bile acid test, and Tuck also needs both a KBr level and Phenobarb level.

As a matter of fact I just looked up the receipt from July 2007 (gulp). One really good thing is Justice no longer needs the phenobarb level too, since he is off that med.

So I wanted to break it down so u will all know what I am paying in 3 weeks...and it's why I am wondering if anyone can make one time donations, even if u can't sponsor Tuck, for the $39.

Justice

exam--$32.00

profile--$46.00

CBC--$22.00

Bile Acid (resting only)--$45.00

total= $145--but if the vet will do it without an exam it will be $113.00

Tucker

exam--$30 (get a $2 reduction if 2 pets see the vet)

profile--$46.00

CBC--$22.00

Bile Acid (resting only)--$45.00

Phenobarb level--$45.00

KBr level--$68

total= $256--but it the vet will do it without an exam it will be $226

total of both boys labs= $401.00--or if no exam (I hope)--$339.00

Plus they have labs inbetween the 6 months, but no where near as expensive.

Seeing the neuro is abt $80 for each boy.

So...again this is why I am asking if u can't be a Tuckie sponsor--any one time donations toward the $39/month would be so appreciated!!

Thanks so very very much angels. I only wish I didn't need to ask, u all do so much already.

Believe me if I thought ur posting caused the boys to break through--I would ask u NOT to post. ;)

***EDIT--I was sure Mike would be fully sponsored by today since things were moving along so well yesterday--plus the IMOM challenge added.

I was wrong. Yes, Tuck needs his meds ordered at the end of the week--so he can wait a few days--but MIKE needs to get fully funded ASAP.

So please give donations to Mike. I am so worried abt all the bleeding he is having from his bladder along with large clots. Please help Mike first.

Thank you angels!!!

Hi Cindy,

Checking to see how the boys are tonight. Hope you and they are doing a bit better.

I smiled when I read you ate a peanut butter cookie for LuckyDog. I'm sure he was there with you while you ate it and watching over you and the boys. I know he's had a paw or two in both Sunny and Buddy.

It started snowing a few hours ago which made me thing of how LuckyDog loved to play in the snow. Sunny also loves the snow, Buddy is just learning how to have fun in the snow. I took lots of pictures during Christmas, and tried to post one last evening, but got a message that the pic was too big. Guess the new board doesn't like to post pictures.

May 2008 be a great year for you and the boys,

splight, Sunny and Buddy

Tuckie is at ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

================T :1icecream::turtle: ================

He is doing sooo much better. He doesn't have the manic behavior, and he seems "in there'. He was having so many CP's and then was in status with that 11 min GM...but for 24 hours now...NO SEIZURES!!

I call the neuro in the AM. I am glad at least so far that I can give a good update!

Justice is at THREE DAY's!!!!

================J :icecream3::turtle: ================

He seems to be feeling good!!

Hi splight, I hope u can figure out how to post the pics. Did u try it in the photo gallery place? I know some are using Photo Bucket.

The boys must be very cute in the snow. LOL. Please give them hugs for me! hugs to u too!!

Hi Michelle, Oh, trust me I think of Syd a lot too. I hope u get his urinary tract and tummy issues figured out. Have u tried sucralfate (carafate) to coat the esophogus and tummy? I need to give that to the boys when they are burping and having reflux. I have to give it an hour before meds so the meds are absorbed.

As maintenance Justice is also on Reglan (metochlopramide) and Pepcid 10mg twice/day. Tuck is on Prilosec 10mg once a day.

Hugs to u and syd!!

Thanks so much angels. I will let u know what the neuro says tmw after I talk to Mari.

HI Cindy, Good news Mike is fully funded with a cushion. I'm going to send in a $5 monthly donation for Tuckie. I know its not the whole thing but its part of it and I've got $5 floating around each month.Seems like a good place to put it.

I'm so glad Tucker is at one day, and don't worry about the tests, we'll get the money one way or another. I still have to order a DVD too. Big hugs to Justice for being seizure free while Tucker is going thru this.

I hope you and the boys have a quiet New Years eve. Big hugs all round, its great to see the trains rolling again.

The boys made it through the night!!

Tuck seems back to being Tuck--thank God!!! I have no idea what happened for the 6 or 7 days, but it was horrible to watch. Poor Tuckie.

Justice is doing well, excpet he may be more itchy and he is burping like a sailor. He may not be able to handle the lamb and rice food he has been getting a handful of each day this week. Today is his last day of getting it, then he has a break from introducing any more foods for a week.

Hi Deb, Oh I may not have posted clearly abt the boys labs. In the beginning (2004) we were getting help with Tuck's labs, but then his seizure meds need became so great (I think it was near $400 for him/month!!!!), so it was decided IMOM would help just with the expensive meds ("just"-HA!! It was life saving). So I pay for all the vets/specialists visits, labs, other seizure meds, etc., myself. I just meant that I really need help with the $39--so I would so appreciate if anyone couldn't sponsor, if maybe they could do a one time donation for any part of the $39 this week becuz I have a huge expense in a couple weeks.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for increasing Tuck's sponsorship. You are such a great friend, and I never expected it since u already sponsor the boys. Ya made me tear up kiddo!!

Thanks so much Deb!!!!

And regarding Mike... :pp_animal_362::waycool::happydance::bravo:

I am BEYOND HAPPY!!!!! THANK YOU ANGELS!! I knew u would come through!!!

I'll update after talking with Mari today.

Thanks so much angels for letting me go into 2008 with my little boys. I am humbled by all of u.

Tuckie is at TWO DAYS!!

================T :icecream2::turtle: ================

He is doing well. No more manic behavior, and no more breaking through every few hours with CP's, or going into status like he did Saturday AM!!!

The neuro wants me to call again on Wed and update. He doesn't think it was bromide toxicity since it stopped on his own. Before when Tuck was toxic, we had to take him off the bromide for awhile before his symptoms got better.

Justice is at FOUR DAYS!!

================J :icecream4::turtle: =================

He is doing fine. He is snuggled up beside me waiting for me to hold him.

Thank you so much angels!!!!

I hope everyone has a safe night and a blessed 2008!!!!

:wbd3:

P.S. Vicky, I missed ur post! Thanks! I hope none of our boys start the New Year off with seizures. We're gonna keep Coot busy even on a holiday--although from past pics he may ummm be a bit tipsy!! But he will take a breathalyzer (sp? --see I don't drink , so I can't even spell breathalyzer. hehe) before cootducting the train. NAW, seriously I know Coot is thrilled to be cootducting with a full passenger list:

Tuckie, Justice, Callie, Roadie and Merlin.

Have a great New Year and hugs to the Mals. Do u have Hank yet...or was it Buck?? Oh, shoot the older Mal??

Hugs to u all!!!

I am so glad to see the boys back on the train. It's been so hard on them and on you. I pray you're getting some rest now too.

Thanks Deb for helping fund Tuckie. I wish I could help out, but... well... you know.

This isn't going to be a very long note. I'm trying to catch up with everyone. It feels like forever since I've checked up on everyone. I'm sure it's just been a couple of days, but in my mind, it feels like I've been away forever.

Wishing you and the boys a most Blessed, Happy and HEALTHY New Year.

WOWZER!! You said it Kathy!! The boys are doing good!

The winds have picked up quite a bit. The boys are sound asleep, so I hope it doesn't bother them. We are to get high winds, then rain, which will turn into a couple inches of snow later today. It is howling something fierce. It sounds like we are having some hail.

The boys thought turning to 2008 was pretty much a non-event. They just couldn't figure out why we were all awake, and in the family room after MN. They got lots of hugs and snuggles. OK, and a few tears...

I didn't know if I would have Justice in 2008. He was so sick for much of 2007. He had thirty some days in a row once without any seizure activiity. Then wound up having so many grand mals a few months ago it was scary. Then him needing to go 'cold turkey' off all seizure meds, and watching my little guy fight with all his might to get through it. My little guy had a rough year. But as always, he was a trooper.

2007 was actually a good year for Tuckie. He had less seizures then he has had in years. It seems like allopathic and holistic medicines all came together to help.

He has had a rough end to 2007, but seems to be past it. This little boy is the Energizer bunny! Like his little brother, he is always a trooper.

Without their seizure meds I would not have a 2008 with the boys. Even when Justie was taken off cold tukey, and the neuro hoped he wouldn't need any meds for awhile-the grand mals started up again. The seizure meds are truly saving their lives. Thank u IMOM amgels for my 2 little guys.

I keep their seizure logs on the computer, but also hand written logs in a steno book. Tuck's book is green to match his collar, and Justice's is purple to match his. I start with new steno pads on January 1st every year.

So both boys start out with a 'clean slate.'

I hope I don't need to write in them for a long time!!

Well, while writing this, Justice has got down on the floor several times to itch and scratch. He is much worse then even yesterday. Since we are doing a food challenge every other week, this week is lamb and rice. He didn't seem to have a problem with the venison and rice. Although the second or third day into his rest week he started itching, so I'm not sure if it was a delayed response to the venison and rice. So, he is allergic to either rice and/or lamb. I would guess lamb. I think she may have me challenge him after his body has a weeks rest to just rice. Then we will know which it is. A few weeks ago when he ate part of a dog biscuit, and then that night itched so much--the biscuits were lamb and rice. So, I am stopping the lamb and rice for now. She said to D/C it if he had symptoms.

He is looking rather fearful of the noise outside--it's very loud with that wind.

I think when I lay down he will come up on my pillow, and I will put my arms around him.

Dang, now Tuck is awake. Darn wind

Hi Kathy, thanks for checking on the boys. I hope ur New Year is filled with joy, hope and happiness. Big hugs!!

Thanks angels!!

HI Cindy, Happy New Year, I'm so glad the boys are starting off the New Year with a clean slate. That makes me so happy. I did get a little confused, I remember you telling that IMOM takes care of the meds, and you the rest. And I'm glad I can help Tucker out, I haven't sponsored him before he's always been set since I've known you.

Sounds like Justice is allergic to the food. I just changed the boys food from lamb and rice to chicken rice and vegetables from a different manufacturer, and Jake has been itching back by his butt like crazy but I can't find anything. No dry skin, no bumps or scratches, so I'm going back to the other food. It started shortly after I changed and its not getting better. Riley is having no problems so its just Jake. I'm going dog and cat food shopping tomorrow so I'll get him off this food. I never would have thought of allergies if it wasn't what Justice is going thru.

We don't have any wind here, we got some snow and this morning they were showing on the weather map that Ithaca was getting heavy snow, but we only got an inch. Going to get really cold here the next couple days. High tomorrow is only supposed to be 17, so I'm going to load up their houses with straw so they will be toasty warm while I'm at work tomorrow. I don't mind the cold but I hate the bitter cold like this. Its only supposed to last for 2 days thank god. I remember a couple years ago when it lasted for the whole month of January. Definitely not easy to get up in the morning and go to work.

I went to my friends house last night she breeds golden retrievers and one of her girls was due Jan 1st so we were on puppy watch. I was getting ready to leave at about 12:30 and no puppies yet. She actually came out of the bedroom and now I understand why. My friend called me at 1:15 and said the first puppy was just born. So I know now she was telling me not to go cause it was going to be soon. So I missed the puppy birth. But at least I got to go to sleep. My friend and her hubby were probably up most of the night delivering puppies.

I hope the winds die down and both you and the boys have an enjoyable day. Big hugs all around

HAPPY 2008 everyone!!

I had really hoped at least today all would be well...but Justice wants me to start writing in his new seizure log book apparently.

Poor little guy at abt 10AM started having several head bobbing episodes, glassy eyes and VERY clingy. He is licking his lips a lot too. I am sure it's from the lamb or rice (whichever he is allergic or sensitive to). With all the burping, gassiness, licking lips, and moaning a bit when u pick him up-I think his GI tract isn't handling the food allergy very well. I just hope it doesn't totally set off his GI disease. Someone vomited yesterday, and it was either he or Rustie. I am pretty sure now it was Justie.

I will call the allergist tmw.

Tuck is doing fine!! So maybe one boy will be OK today!!

Hi Jacki, well at least I am sure this episode is due to a food allergy, so I hope now with the food gone he will get better quickly. Hugs to u and the kids!

Hi Debs, yup, Jake may be allergic or have a sensitivity to something in that new food.

If u look at Justice he will itch like crazy, but there is nothing u can see on him. When he had the fish and potato food that he was allergic to, his skin got very red. Some dogs get lots of ear infections when they have food allergies. Some allergies/sensitivities can cause GI issues only--or both itching and GI problems.

Well, when u change foods u will see if the butt itching is better-it may take a week or more to know. You can always reintroduce the other food back in abt 6 weeks and see if it happens again...

It is just blowing like crazy here, plus we have snow now too. The gusts are so strong Carol left the horses in their stalls today, since they were just hunkering near the barn anyway.

Ohhhh u missed the puppy births! Well I hope u can see them again when they are fun and u can smell puppy breath!

Have a good day!!!

hugs

Thanks so much angels!!

Darn Justice. I hope its nothing more and he can settle down. I was so hoping for clean logs for a while.

My friend called me they still haven't been to bed yet. But all pups are healthy and doing fine. They did lose one, which happens, actually we think it was still born. Still its hard on everyone. So I think she had a total of 10, minus the one that didn't make it. But everyone else is doing fine. I may be going over on Friday evening for dinner so will get to see them. They are so cute when they are tiny but I really start enjoying them when they get their eyes open and are moving around.

I won't be re-introducing that food to Jake, I know he's fine on the other stuff and its a good food, so hopefully once I get him back on it things will be fine. I hate having him go thru this, he just licks and itches and he's even started going into the crate and giving himself a good scratch on the top of it. yes he is that tall that he has to duck his head when he is in there.

The wind is coming up a little and there are flurries in the air but not too much. Hope you and the boys have a great day.

Hi Deb,

I have a feeling the allergist may challenge Justice with rice after his body has finished

'resting' for 7 days. It would be nice to know if it's the lamb or the rice, becuz so many things have rice in it. Plus sometimes vets recommend just feeding some rice with an upset tummy, and I want to know if it's safe.

I think he may be doing these food challenges for several months. I want him back on yogurt, so he will need challenged with that for a week. I want him back on his probiotics, and it has chicken liver so he'll need challenged for a week with that. Plus (gulp) I want him challenged with potato and also fish. Everyone is pretty sure it's the fish and not potato he was allergic to when he ate the Response F & P diet, since it's typically the protein they are allergic to. But it can be the carbohydrate.

Sooo many things have fish in them. Nearly every lowfat food has some kind of fish. I want to give him fish oil, but can't if he is allergic.

We may also challenge him on Tuck's food, but it had some fish way down on the ingredients, so it would be nice if Justice can handle it--and they could eat the

same food.

This could sure take a long time since after he is challenged for 7 days, he needs a break for 7 days before adding another challenge.

He can't even start his allergy shots until this food challenge is totally over.

You know if Jake likes the other food, I agree and wouldn't reintroduce the food that appears to be making him itchy.

I am glad u may see the pups Friday, but I hope u can see them when they are abt 4 to 5 weeks old and older. They are sooo cute then.

It's still extremely windy here. Tuck was with me a few minutes ago, but a big gust of wind that sounded almost like a train came and he took off!

Tuck fears the wind.

Hugs to u and the kids!

Justie still isn't feeling well. He is a bit hunched now. His tummy hurts. Poor munchkin.

He gets Reglan and Pepcid twice/day. I added sucralfate (carafate) too.

Not a good way for my baby Justice to start 2008.

Thanks so very much angels!!

Tuckie still needs $29/month to be fully sponsored. If anyone is able to make any one time donations, or help with any part of his sponsorship, I will be so grateful.

The increased dose of Keppra has made a big difference over what he was going through. He hasn't had another severe grand mal (like his Saturday AM, eleven minute status GM), and is mentally back to being Tuckie butt. He also was having complex partial seizures every few hours for 6 days--that has stopped too.

So the added Keppra IS making a difference.

I want him to be able to keep getting the increased dose of Keppra.

All of u have done, and continue to do so much for me and the boys, that I hate to even ask. I work hard at saving money for the other things that I know the boys need (labs, specialist visits, other seizure meds, etc), so an unexpected expense is really hard. I always am fearful one will need an ER visit to stop a seizure.

You all are so wonderful. I know most of u are stretching ur budgets to help with my boys and other PIN's. I can't thank you enough for helping one or both the boys. You all mean so much to us.

One time donations are very appreciated too, as well as even a partial sponsorship.

Thanks very very much angels!!!
