Princess Garcia is a 5 year old spayed Shepherd mix with a massive cranial abdominal mass. They suspect a splenic mass and/or peritoneal effusion. They have not done any diagnostics and say the mass could be bleeding. Princess is very ill. She’s not eating and very lethargic. She needs immediate surgery as soon as possible to remove the tumor and possibly have a splenectomy. However, vet can’t do surgery tomorrow and then is closed until Tuesday, so Tuesday is earliest surgery can happen.

Here is what her mom has to say about Princess: " Princess's life began a little rough. She was discarded on a very busy highway. She was rescued when she was about 10 wks old. I brought her home with me and she has been a part of my family for over 5 & 1/2 years now. She is smart, loving and very protective of her family and home. She gets along well with our other pets. But now watching her struggle to get up and walk, no appetite, and the discomfort of this large mass that has invaded her body is overwhelming because I can't help her."

Is she okay to wait until Tuesday? This makes me very anxious.

Judy G.

I hope so Judy G. Unfortunately, her vet is booked up with surgeries tomorrow, and then they're closed Sat., Sun., and Mon. because of the holiday.

There's no emergency center that could do this surgery?

Judy G.

Judy G., I'm not sure if Princess's Mom has contacted other vets or not. She's actually working on figuring out how to post right now - when she gets here, hopefully she'll be able to tell us what other vets she has contacted if any. Her vet who will be doing the surgery actually is a 24-hour vet and are normally open 7 days a week, but they just happen to be closed for 3 days because of the holiday, sadly.

Thank you all for caring so much about Princess. This was a very unexpected discovery. Her condition hasn't changed much since yesterday, but it hasn't worsened thank God. Her illness came as a shock to me. I thought her loss of appetite and energy was attributed to something as simple as gas or stomach discomfort. Luckily I rushed her to the vets office yesterday morning where sadly the xrays showed more than just gas .I was given the names of 3 specialists in my area who are equipped for this type of surgery. We immediately went to a specialist who explained her condition and told me that the mass is very large and is almost the size of a basketball! Worried about the cost for this surgery which can save her life, I immediately began contacting organizations for assistance to help Princess. I thank each and every one of you for your concerns for my girl. She's a big sister to 2 other dogs and 6 cats and a big part of my 3 kids and my life.

Sending in a donation for Princess. I am still concerned at the length of time she will have to wait for surgery, especially if she may have internal bleeding.

I was able to get her to eat a little. She hadn't eaten in days. So this was a great accomplishment. She's a fighter and she's not ready to give up. She reminds me of this every time she wags her tail.

Is there any veterinarian surgeon capable of doing this surgery with enough compassion not to make Princess endure for 4 more days?

Princess just ate a little, drank some water and is now resting. She's breathing a little heavy so we're just keeping an eye on her. I have contacted a few other hospitals about the surgery and the response is still the same, payment before surgery. This is frustrating. I've never looked into pet insurance. Any suggestions?

But would anyone be able to do the surgery before Tuesday if we raise the money?

Pet insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions, so while it might be a good option for later, it will not help now.

just sent $500 in honor of veterans Rob & Kevin. If others will match, Princess may not need to find other sources - and maybe she can have her surgery soon.

$315 is all that stands between Princess Garcia and life saving surgery. As her mom said; “She's a fighter and she's not ready to give up. She reminds me of this every time she wags her tail.

If you are able to give anything at all, please visit http://tinyurl.com/79og6jd ; note for Princess. Or you can make a direct donation via PayPal by specifying paypal@imom.org as the recipient. Don't forget to indicate Princess's name.

Princess and her family would be so very grateful!!!

Thank you all so much for helping Princess. I have contacted a few hospitals who will perform this type of surgery, and if the funds are available before her Tuesday surgery date, she could have the surgery only on an emergency basis as this holiday weekend they don't have regular hours. But the price of surgery will be a little bit more costly if a team of surgeons has to be called in at one of the emergency facilities.
