  1. My baby Dook

My baby is a 2 year old Pit and Cane Corso mix breed. I have had him since he was 10 weeks old. On Saturday 4/2/16 he was outside running and barking at a dog he seen passing the fence. I then noticed he started to fall to the side and cry out loudly. He began dragging his back legs and was unable to make it back to the door to come inside. I carried him inside and examined him for any noticeable injuries. I took him to a nearby 24 hour vet clinic that only gave him pain medication because they were afraid of him (breed) and sent me home. I slept with him on the couch just to keep him calm and comfortable. The next morning I carried him back outside to see if he needed to urinate, he was unable to. At that point I noticed his abdomen was extended and he was uncomfortable when I pressed on it. I took him to an advance care center (other than the 1st one that did nothing) They stated he has a FCE (FIBROCARTILAGENOUS EMBOLISM) which is a injury to his spinal cord caused by all of the running and jumping he was doing. He has been in the ICU at the vet center since 4/3/16 with a catheter in place and IV fluids and is under the care of a neurologist since he is still unable to urinate or walk. I am a single parent and we both desperately want Dook back home and the cost of his MRI, spinal tap and hospitalization is very unexpected. I am doing the best I can because I cant lose my baby! If you know of any grant programs please let me know and I will apply I have applied to 4 so far and been denied by one. Any information is helpful. I don't know how to reply to comments but FCE STANDS FOR FIBROCARTILAGENOUS EMBOLISM. Thanks for reading!
  2. Zeus

This is Zeus. He is a white and brindle pitbull. I have had him since he was 3 months old and was born on August 13th 2014. He is wonderful with my 4 year old daughter. I couldnt ask for a better companion! Last night, september 13th 2015 my fiance and I got home from work and when i went to walk him, he would not get out of his crate.... I managed to pull him out of the crate and he fell over! I called my friend who breeds bully/cane corsos and asked if she knew a vet who would bill or do a payment plan.... She luckily was able to calm my fears as she has 1 semester left as a Vet tech in college. I called the vets she provided the numbers for and even other vets, but no one wants to do a payment plan or do billing instead referred me to apply for care credit. We applied for care credit and got denied. Even the Dutchess County SPCA wants the money up front. Dutchess County SPCA was kind enough to refer me to imom.org in hopes that imom can help. We believe Zeus may either have a sprained or broken front left wrist, and he is having a hard time putting pressure on his right hind leg.... Because the injuries are on both sides of his body he is having a bit of difficulty keeping balance and either just lays down or sits without putting pressure on his front paw. Are there no vet offices or animal hospitals left that care about saving or helping an innocent dog? Their hunger for money disgusts me. I even provided where I work and when i get paid and no one wants to help. How can someone not want to help? Even insurance through AAA for pets you have to have money up front and they will reimburse you. If anyone has any way of helping please please I could really use it even if its a lead on a vet that will help i live in Upstate NY near poughkeepsie. We have called literally 20 vets within 30 miles and all want money up front. Thank you, Clotilde.
  3. Titan's Mommy

Hi, my name is Betsy. I am new to this site and the forum. Still trying to figure it all out. Titan is my 9 month old pup who needs surgery over the next day or so in order to live. I'm trying to keep it together for the sake of my kids
  4. My name is Carrie Burke, age 34, Raleigh, NC, proud owner of Cooper, my 4 year old pitbull, who I rescued from Placer County Animal Shelter in Auburn, California in July 2010. Actually, Cooper rescued me! He has been my constant companion through a very unexpected divorce, a cross country relocation, and now a serious medical condition as I was diagnosed with MS a few months ago. Cooper is now blind in both eyes due to cataracts associated with bad breeding (not kidney problems or diabetes). Cooper is friendly and sweet and precious and a little clumsy! He loves children and is truly a "nanny dog"! He is affectionate and intuitive and just loves people! He used to live for tennis balls and fetch, but now that he's blind, he struggles to find the ball or even navigate his way around the dog park - his favorite place. He is running into other dogs, and sometimes picnic tables, and even trees. So I am now having to keep him on leash when we go there. It breaks my heart! I hope to be able to afford to get him cataract surgery soon. I am applying to various foundations and organizations, but because his condition is not life threatening, and he does not have a disease such as diabetes, he has not qualified for any programs. I want to give my best friend back his vision! Any resources you can point me to would be great. I've exhausted Care Credit due to an accident he had in November 2012 where he was struck head on by an SUV. Fortunately he survived, but I am still paying off those bills and now I've incurred my own medical bills due to MS. Please pray that I can restore his quality of life sooner than later. He has certainly restored mine! Blessings - Carrie & Cooper
